so when spotting and stalking hogs and deer you shouldn't have a round in the chamber? I chamber a round as soon as I get out of my truck and then weapon goes on safe and I maintain positive control of my muzzle and practice strict trigger discipline. Have you tried quietly loading a round into an AR chamber? It's not very quiet and if you do it slowly the round doesn't usually get seated all the way then you have to use the forward assist and hope it's in there all the way.

Exactly! I let my AR slam in to battery at the truck that way there is no chance of not having a properly seated round in the field.

That isn't a forum I'm part of, this is.

And it was explained why there is a difference in the two. And you, and NP refuse to accept it. Both of you are your way, or no way.

I'm not deflecting squat. You brought up a subject, talked smack to me about it, and then turns out you have no experience on it.

That's called fair discussion. Then we get, "Uh,oh, I'm stuck - better start hollering deflection or Kathy somebody or my wife thinks I'm a stud or you like scabbard packs or.....or.......or.......". In other words, deflection.

Hang on there cowgirl, I didnt mock your sheep or question you on why you don't actually hunt sheep in the unlimited units of Montana.

All I said was you carry a rifle in a scabbard pack but mock me because I carry mine strapped to my pack with cleared bolt? Or walk to my stand with a cleared bolt or get in and out of a stand with a cleared bolt? Why do I need to carry my rifle at the ready if you don't?

I'm not on here telling people how to handle their rifles or how to hunt or how they don't know what the think they know about hunting, but ironically you are. I handle rifles differently now then I use to for reasons already mentioned, on top of that I can't honestly say that not having it loaded has ever truly cost me an animal. On top of that is that a really I shot that I have to take? I can think of a couple what it's... and we all know how what if's work out

I didn't mock you. Quite the opposite. You just refuse to see it. An open bolt is not necessary with an empty chamber, but you explained why you do it. And I accept that.

Fortunately, polls on here are informative only, not authoritative. Just like the discussions. If one did their hunting (or anything else for that matter) based on either, one would soon find oneself in deep doo-doo much of the time.

You made fun of people who carry their rifles with open cleared bolts.

I never said it was necessary but I can honestly say that since I have changed how I handle my rifles I can't think of one time it has cost me an animal. I can think of one what if, and we all know how what if's work out.

Now if I'm in possible brown bear country probably a few changes going to be made, although I bow hunted possible brown bear country last year with only my normal everyday carry weapon on my side.

It was informational that's for sure.

For the record. 24HCF shows 96% approve of glassing/hunting the safe way. The contrast to this forum is interesting, and once again, it is irrelevant the public vs private land, and day vs night hunting. Safe is safe, period.

The open vs closed bolt argument is interesting too. Carry it however you want to, makes no difference to me personally, although I do have my preference. After my buddy's son got killed at point blank range with an "unloaded" gun, I take zero chances with rifle safety. I take it very seriously at all times. No margin for error with loaded weapons.

Well, of course I didn't read it. I already told you I'm not part of that forum, so I don't give a crap about it.

Negative there Sparky. Based on your professional hunting ethics lots has gone over your head the past few years. You need to grow up and quit doing the very things you accuse NP of doing. In my relatively short time around this forum I've noticed that you are often times in the middle of a pissing match of some sort, and they all turn out the same....you getting your little feelers out of sorts. Grow up, bro.

I read it. Guys piled up on public land don't like scanning with scope because, apparently, they frequently glass each other. And they want to fire on each other when they catch each other. There's an odd je ne c'est quoa over there.

If you want to get scientific post it up on ROK or MM...I bet the % rises even more.

Didn't mock you either. But it's still silly.
1)Not necessary;
2)You go full open-action. Really silly. Like "not using binoculars" silly.

I'm still trying to figure out why you're insulting Jgraider. confused2

When there's nothing left to say, that's what some people do. A page right out of the democratic playbook.

Not the vibe I got on either point. It was either 1. pat answers off the back of a box of shells or 2. they were glassing each other wanting to "send it".

Interestingly, on point 2, these guys were adamant that scanning with a scope was dangerous. hammer

I don't know a sole on this forum personally. You'll probably find agreements and disagreements amongst most everyone, depending on the topic.

Hang around and it won't take long to know who's who and what's what. Of course, disagreements take place as on all forums. The grownups go on about their business and the insecure folks take it all personally - that's when the chest-thumping starts and the insults fly.

You'll get worked up about it at first. Later, you will just say your piece and watch the monkeys dance. It's quite entertaining actually. I'll even admit to playing the music for them to dance to now and again. smile
