Its that time of year, see them quite often for about 4-5 weeks and then none until next year.

If you can remain calm they will let you hold them and not try to bite you. They are very social spiders.

You can mess with them and they will rear up couple times then calm down and walk away. When they calm down put your hand in front of them and they will climb on and you can let them crawl around on you. They are fragil little critters so don't drop them, I move them out of way so they don't get ran down at work. My son has fear of anything with that many legs so if I pick one up he threatens my life. boxing

We were sitting at a buddy's ranch house in S. Texas one year, under the porch at night just watching it rain.

Apparently the downpour filled a hole full of tarantulas, because all of the sudden, there were like 50 of them crawling across the porch we were under. Really creepy, but cool.

We killed them all, of course.

This guy was way out in the pasture so he got a pass but definitely made me rethink walking around in flip flops around camp

Never killed one, they're cool creatures. My mom nearly did many years ago, though-late one night she was trying to get a weather update and one walked out from under the TV in our living room. No idea how it got in the house but it freaked her out pretty well.

I wouldn't actually recommend killing them. It's disgusting and a big mess.

I've seen one on Ft Hood while tracking a dead hog and seen one in the middle of a ranch road out in west Texas.

Rex where are you from or just how young are you to not know what that is?
Use to see them all of the time growing up in Oak Cliff, hardly ever see them anymore.
On two separate occasions I have let them step up on my hand and walk on my arm, no biggy.

Tarantulas are cool spiders and eat a lot of stuff we really do not like such as grasshoppers, june bugs etc.
So give them Big Hairy critters a pass every time you can up

Lived in Texas my entire life, and to clarify I was aware it was a tarantula, just didn't know what kind it was or if Texas had anything other than the brown tarantula.

Okay wasn't trying to be a horses azz, maybe a little bit of a smart azz. Surprised that any grown man from this state would not know a Tarantula or Hornback lizard unless they were real young or just did not get out a lot. Species specific explains your question up
