Do you guys in the rolling plains of Texas, or any of the other bird hunting area, feel like your getting enough rain for the birds to nest and hatch. My contacts are giving mixed reviews. If you have seen babies or nesting activity tell us about it, you will put a smile on a lot of faces!! Have a great day.

I think tigger is speaking about the land he hunts, there was a post in the last week or so talking about a 3-4 inch rain in Fisher Co. and 1-2 in other areas. Don't remember where you bird hunt but guess the best you can say is the rain has been spotty.

LaSalle and McMullen county have decent rain as does the coast to the King ranch. South of the King ranch rain has been spotty, though we did get 1-2 inches this week. Much of Texas is drier than last year but nothing like during the drought a few years back.

Maybe a little dryer, but also a little cooler all this May. Abilene is down 1" for the year on rainfall rolling into a pretty good forecast with favorable rainfall for the next few days. I think all is good so far, but that is probably wishful thinking.

April-August rains are the most important for yearly quail production so we are right in the middle of a critical period as far as rainfall is concerned. I don't really track the rolling plains but its easy enough to find it out from historical sources. I do track South Texas (Hebbronville area) and we are getting sufficient rain so far this year to be on target to to carry a good quail crop. key words here are so far .

2017
Mar 5.54"
Apr 2.34"
May 4.45"

by comparison, the last two years rainfall where we have seen phenomenal numbers:

2016
Mar 5.74"
Apr .75"
May 5.61"
Jun 1.95"
Jul 0"
Aug 4.60"
Sep 1.18"

2015
Mar 8.51"
Apr 4.89"
May 11.94"
Jun 5.96"
Jul .07"
Aug 0"
Sep 2.15"
