I have a 9 year old that I was thinking on letting him shoot my over and under, the chokes are changeable. What would be the best setup, improved for both?

Skeet or cylinder, that way when he's close he will at least chip the target. 2cents

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Good point!! I was thinking he was starting the kiddo on clay birds before the real ones. As far as gage, haven't you always wanted a 28 gage? banana

if its a 12 gauge, you may ruin him from shooting forever.

It is a 20 gauge and we will be dove hunting so, I was thinking improved chokes in both barrels.

And we will be shooting lots of clays over the summer so, want to have whatever chokes he will be hunting with for practice.

I'd suggest IC over decoys but if he can really hit the clays in practice put IM, M or light full in one barrel so he can reach out to hit more birds.

I like MOD over IMP for dove hunting.

Shut your mouth! Stick with IC and keep it under 25yds.

Skeet/Skeet will be fine to 25 yards or a little more on clays, your choice for the dove patch needs to be based on how the birds are flying, etc. P_102

Teaching him to shoot right. Don't worry about what choke you are using. He needs to focus on the clay, stay in front of the clay he will be a lot better off.

Stick with the 20. 12 will beat him up (unless you reload). 28 and .410 don't have enough BBs to give him a chance at hitting.
