Asked a friend to make me some cutting boards from the 60+ year old sycamore tree my Mom had cut down. A local guy milled the wood for us, some edge grain and slabs. They turned out pretty nice I think. Mineral oil finish to bring out the natural grain and colors.

Those look great....pardon my ignorance but how dense is sycamore? Will it show wear soon or resist "cuts" like seasoned oak?

Beautiful.

It has an interlocked grain but not as dense as oak. It has been used for butcher block tops, rolling pins and cutting and bread boards. Quarter sawn is the most recognized for it's grain.
It should hold up pretty well. Mostly some sentimental gifts for my sisters and a niece.

That's awesome....I's sure they will cherish them! Thanks for the info too!
