Got an email yesterday that the liquidation has started with items @ 40%, 30%, and 25% off instead of "dollars" off. Ammo at 15% off. Supposedly it is nationwide now.
I got some good deals on black powder and archery stuff this morning!

So they raised their prices by 15%, 20%, and 30% and then marked them down the same so the items are still more expensive than Academy?

Drove by the Lake Worth store yesterday and parking lot was completely full. I didn't bother going in. I went in the one in Killeen when they had the sign that said 40% off a couple weeks ago and anything worth buying was still marked regular price or 10% off the only stuff 40% off was crap nobody would want to biy

I stopped by the Mesquite store yesterday and it was exactly what I expected. No markdowns on ammo or guns and the other items marked down were still more expensive than Academy.

I just got a 5.00 pair of Mossy Oak sweat pants, 3 pairs of Mossy Oak winter boot socks for 3.00, and possibly the ugliest pair of Mossy Oak camo jeans on the planet (there's an aspen trunk running down one leg) for 9.00 in the Walmart clearance aisle, so I'm good. But I did resist another one of these..."going down?": Is the Yeti tumbler craze passé?

So they raised their prices by 15%, 20%, and 30% and then marked them down the same so the items are still more expensive than Academy? That's not the case here! I had already checked prices last week on the black powder stuff and some other items, compared to Cabelas & Academy, both of those stores are less than 5 miles from the Gander. Gander's pricing is cheaper by 16% to 33% on many of the items I compared at the other two stores!

I saw a few posts on FB that pointed to news articles that said Camping World is buying the store in College Station and four others in Texas. Link

I went to check things out in the store in my area and I have only one way to describe it...it was a joke.

Oh, and it amazed me how with things being priced at "10%" off how much of the product was gone...the prices they were asking can be beat every day online...amazing how by advertising the store is closing that people flock to the store and purchase things that are still over priced...this is based on my observation of the prices I saw.

I just strolled through mine and I still don't feel like their really motivated to selling all of their merchandise. Naturally anything of value is at 15% off, majority of it was at 10% off when I went there last month. I'd more than likely pull the trigger on some coolers if they were marked down to 40% off.

I would really consider buying one of their overbuilt coolers, but not when they are priced exactly the same as Yeti.

I went yesterday...some stuff is halfway decent but most is still high priced. A lot of items are selling fast however. The one in San Antonio has items between 15-40% off.

The Mesquite store is GARBAGE. Nearly everything is ONLY 10% off which barely gets them into normal price range. Nothing is over 30% off...
AND
***NO GUNS AND AMMO ON SALE, AT ALL***
Don't waste your time.

Since they aren't closing all their stores, I would be really surprised if we ever saw good "store closing" deals on guns or ammo. Any of those items can be shipped to the remaining stores for sale. AS long as the entire company isn't being liquidated, there is no reason to take a loss on an item when you can ship it to a non-closing store to sell at full price.
Thanks, Rich

Don't waste your time. The one in Cypress has 10% off on ammo which of course isn't enough to get it to Academy prices.

Gander has 126 stores, they are trying to negotiate a Chapt.11 banruptcy which will allow them to operate with a limited number of those 126 stores. Estimated number of stores staying open is only 23 stores. Those remaining stores must be profitable and maintain a certain level of sales per square foot that will be acceptable to Gander's creditors. The other stores will be closed and totally liquidated; lease settlements will be costly.
After September, if they cannot maintain that profitability level, they will close more stores, or will be forced into Chapt 7 liquidation. Cabelas was able to bail out Gander in 1996 by purchasing their catalog operations, but that's not going to happen again! Gander is to reorganize in September; if they make it past Christmas, they may survive, once again! If not, they will be totally liquidated.
Strong rumor is that Camping World will take over 70 of Gander's stores and add them to their 125 stores nationwide. Good Sam Club is also part of Camping World. This is a strong company, hopefully it can take on this much financial responsibility.

I don't figure they will make it......based on my personal experiences at a couple of their stores they were over priced and under serviced......bad culture from top to bottom.....don't see that getting fixed enough to make any appreciable difference....they deserve to be gone IMHO....
