Need to clear out a bunch. I cut em down every year and they keep coming back bushier than ever. Anybody know something that works?

I am no expert, but I believe it's Remedy (+ diesel). Best to be applied immediately after freshly cutting it. Someone else will chyme in soon I am sure.

Depends on size & method you use.

Basil, bark, cut stump = Remedy + mso or mineral oil or veg oil some folks use diesel as surfactant. Cut stump must be applied immediately after cutting.

Foliar best on less than 8' tall, thick infestation of smaller, & multi trunked = Sendero + non ionic surfactant.

I use Sendero & have been very happy with results, timing is every thing.

Read & follow label directions.

Remedy mixed with diesel at a 1:4 ratio. Does the trick on cut trees, but you have to spray soon after cutting before the tree seals up.

1 Remedy to 4 diesel works as a 2/3 trunk spray on every tree I've applied it to (never have tried it on mesquite because I don't have them).

Same ratio sprayed on the stump of a freshly cut down tree has prevented the trees from returning. I've performed this in hot weather, as well as cold weather. Works every time.

Cutting them is the worst thing you can do. It will not matter unless you spray it so that the herbicide get to the bulb. You could shred it, cover it with dirt, and it will still sprout up from the bulb. Remedy doesn't require a license and works for spot spraying. When spot spraying you have foliage and basal applications. Basal applications you spray the base of the brush with the Remedy mixed with Diesel as the surfactant to help the herbicide break into the mesquite and kill it. You don't want to spray the leaves with basal spray. You can also use dish soap or something like Cide-Kick. I have better luck with foliage spray than basal on smaller brush. Basal spray I use on brush that has a trunk larger than about 1" diameter. Usually that stuff is pretty close to 5' or more. I used to carry a machette with me, make a cut into the bark, and apply the herbicide on the cut. I have done the same with foliage mix and basal and got the same results.

Take a look at this from Texas A&M. Good stuff and will tell you what to use and mix.

We had a lot of small mesquites in our hay field. Nothing over shoulder high. We used Remedy and water and sprayed each bush. All died. Once they were dead I used an axe and/or a shovel to get the bush up. I got punctured a bazillion times, but those bushes were dead dead dead.

That worked on the little ones, but I have larger ones (trees, not bushes) around the edge of the field. I plan to chainsaw the trunks and spray the stump with Remedy. I hope that will work, but have not tried it yet.

Yep, remedy + diesel. I spray foliage or basal depending on size, and time f year. Don't shred live mesquites! They come back twice as bad.

What has worked for me is spot treating areas, usually about 1/3 to 1/2 acre at a time, but you can do as much or as little as you want, and then wait until all trees in area are unquestionably dead, then I shred the area. Takes time and if you mow too early there is a chance the root is alive, and it will come back, but has worked for me. I then spot spray any resprouts, and over time there are fewer, and fewer resprouts in cleared area.

If you want to kill a big one, take a cordless drill with a 1/2" bit and drill a hole into it about 3" deep. Using a syringe or turkey baster, fill said hole with Roundup concentrate. Profit.

I use Remedy/diesel for oaks, cactus and poison ivy. It's one of the few good products that don't require an applicators license. Wear nurse gloves.

Will be double hard to kill now since you been cutting them off. They have a large root system. and not much foliage to absorb chemical. Might be better off with spot ground application of valpor.

Been spraying Mesquites for many years here on the ranch. Have tried several different mixtures and Remedy mixed with Reclaim and dish soap and water has worked the best for me. Remedy and Reclaim mixed is the same as Sendero but they charge a lot more for mixing it for you.

We spray about 10-15 miles of fence line every year and have only used Remedy, water and dish soap. We do this in August when it is hot, it kills everything it touches, including the bigger tree/bushes. We add blue dye sometimes. A bottle busted open one year, everything was blue, including us. That stuff is a mess.

Trichlopyr is the generic name for Remedy. Buy trichlopyr and save a few bucks.

I have had good luck with remedy, trichlopyr, clear pasture, and even just regular old round up has worked pretty well for me on smaller stuff with really good coverage.

Tractor Supply sells Remedy. I think the last I purchased was $89 a gallon, but at 4:1 it will go a long way. And just me, but on small mesquites, I actually go a little thinner than 4:1 and more like 6:1 - doesn't seem to hurt results.

I know an earlier post said "Read & follow label directions," I have never been able to find instructions on Remedy. I emailed them several years back and they said 1 ounce to gallon is good. Although it appears that everyone here uses varying mixtures that are much stronger than that, we have had great success at that rate, and it goes a lot further.

From Dow,

Sir,
Thank you for contacting Dow AgroSciences. If you plan on spot spraying
the foliage, you can mix 1 ounce of Remedy* and 1 ounce of a surfactant
in 1 gallon of water. This will typically cover 1000 square feet. If
you plan on treating the bark, you can mix 1 quart Remedy in 3 quarts
diesel to make up 1 gallon.

I hope this helps!

I just mix how my FIL told me too, he used to manage a feed store. He said a cup of remedy for my 2 gallon sprayer. I have mixed it with straight water and with a diesel/gasoline mixture I got when my buddy put diesel in his gas pickup. The diesel/gas seemed to take affect quicker, but they both killed well.
