Have a few secrets from old time hunters since passed. They promised me never to share though! Thank you Halfdozen. At least one person is taking this post seriously. Last time l try to think outside the box to keep things interesting in the offseason I'm sorry. I didn't know you hated fun. We'll behave now.

Who knew...THF is full of undiscovered comedians. That's the real secret here. My intention with this post was to get some cool stories like for example..."My dad taught me a way to bring in a mature buck after the rut. He learned it from his dad who learned it from his father and only works late in the season but have killed all my best deer doing it. Never heard anyone else doing it but not asking around to find out"...If you thought I was hoping to find the hidden answer to stories like these then your wrong and did not read the initial post. Was really more interested in getting a sense for how many people keep things in their back pocket whether asked to by a long deceased family member or because they realize it gives them a unique competitive advantage and don't want everyone and their mom to learn on the internet.

I was hoping this would be my big break, but it didn't work out. Still undiscovered.

Don't know how many "sure fire" things there are in hunting and fishing to be kept a secret. There are very few "always" or "never" things, and most of them involve the wind or staying hidden in general. I bet there are more of us who have secret spots than secret tricks, and I bet a bunch of us who think we have secret tricks would be disappointed to find out how many others are already in on our secrets and we just don't know. Critters been getting hunted a long long time in this world for there to be too many real secrets left.

The one and only true path to big bucks consistently is to spread badger feces (must be fresh) all over your face and hair.
I know what you're thinking, and yes, I made that up.

guess I am doomed, no badgers close enough to collect fresh dung ... I think the OP was looking for serious comments ... ... but with this group that might be difficult to capture

I try to hunt where the wildlife lives.. No secret, but it's my method to collect sausage.
I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

Aw, I will just spill the beans. I NEVER wear camo clothing or face paint when I hunt. For some reason the animals I hunt never know the difference.....

i use a scent of humor to attract deer... doesn't work on here for attracting friends, so i mostly huntsolo ... Got a thread called Best kept secret in the public hunting section... it's not a secret if ya tell someone though.... Edit: As some have mentioned on here, hunting shows are getting more bout sponsors... That's what pays for the shows... Have mentioned , more as a tip rather than keeping it a secret, for those hunters on a tight budget interference to range finders in a few posts... Even cheap scopes & using more than one pin for archery can be used as range finder... Just not best at explaining things...

I had started to train the deer to drink beer. No seriously, I really was. I had a bowl at the feeder and I'd carry two beers to the stand. One for me and another for the deer. Some would drink it some wouldn't. Biggest problem was the hogs. They'd come through and then I'd have to go looking through the woods for the bowl. That was on my old lease. Haven't tried it yet on the new one.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

So, let me get this straight. You wanted everybody to share their secrets to success while still keeping yours a secret. I relly don't think you have a secret, unless it's that you don't have a secret. If that's the case, then keep it a secret.

I have a secret and the secret is that attractants are designed to attract hunters not the animal the hunters are hunting. that's spot on!

I have a hunting "secret." It's not so much a secret as it is just rediculous. My favorite snow goose call is a dead snow goose. I don't mean decoy, I mean actual call.

Was just wondering how many of you guys have a special attractant or hunting tactic that you have never shared online and is a secret you hold very close to the vest....And also something you have never heard or read about someone else doing. Not asking for you to spill the beans but just curious how many of you got a secret. For me its a hog trap bait that I stumbled across on accident. I'm all for helping others learn but some things are just too good to let slip out for free especially in an age when information spreads like wildfire across the internet and you can easily find yourself in a situation where your competitive hunting advantage is gone As pappy once said: take & sour corn.. Let sit & ferment...Take soured corn to trap... Pour out in pyle 10ft in front of trap... Climb in trap.. Close door... When hogs come around... choot-em... solves problem...

Last time someone asked to share a secret was when I discovered that adults that ask you out of the blue to share secrets, are sneaky scoundrels, never to be trusted, and can't keep a secret for shat.
