Been reading all the arguing about BBQ places and who has the best. Now, I swear it's true, I'm starving. So I got to thinking about where I'd like to go for BBQ. Two places come to mind..no...3 places. The Pit Master in the Woodlands is my first choice. Second is Luling City Market in Houston, on Richmond, right at the 610 west loop. Third is a place in Natchez, Mississippi, near downtown, called the Pig Out Inn.

Best baked potato with chopped brisket is at Woody's in Centerville, on the west side of 45, at the deli.

Lord, I'm hungry....

Yes, another BBQ thread is definitely needed.

I too like BBQ.

I made a foldover sammich and feel better now. As for why not the real Luling City Mkt, I was working in the Houston Galleria area for a few years. Then the company moved to the Woodlands.

The Pit Master is a dang good place. Great food, cute waitresses (a few anyway), country music, even checkered tablecloths.

The baked tater at 407 is way better than Woody's. I'm a regular at both places.

I have been under impressed with Luling City Market in Houston on multiple occasions. It's just like most bab places in Houston, over priced for meh.

If you venture into the metromess:

Pecan Lodge in down town Dallas in Deep Ellum on Main St.

Hutchins in McKinney.

I've had BBQ all over the state. This is in my top 3 of all time.

LOL ... no two people have the same tastes ... what is great to some is mediocre to others. I love BBQ, especially brisket. It might be one of my favorite foods. When I am out on the road, that is my main go-to stop when hungry. If it is good or great, I will go back. If it is okay to poor, I'll find somewhere else next time.

Right now I would be hard pressed to name my top 3 for Brisket as most of the ones I really loved are now no longer in business, just didn't have the market to stay alive or were bought out and dropped drastically in quality. There is a food trailer park in Georgetown with a BBQ place called Full House that I hear all the rave about from our locals, but never open when I had time to go by. I will have to give it a try one of these days.

a couple come to mind that I have always gone to that would likely remain in my top 10, just always looking for a new replacement for the top 3 no longer around. Kreuz & Blacks in Lockhart, Louie Mueller in Taylor, Stiles Switch on north Lamar in Austin, Stubb's in Austin, Inman's Country Kitchen in Llano, Wagon Wheel BBQ on south 163 in Ozona ... those are all pretty solid and consistent on the brisket.

I have stopped in at Cooper's in Junction likely over a dozen times in the past 3-4 years, 9-10 of those times pretty good ... everyone gets a poor cut of meat occasionally. I still need to try out Lum's in Junction but not on my beaten path. I will 99.9% of the time pass Coopers in Llano to go 1/4 mile farther west to Inman's and also love their turkey sausage & homemade breads.

My guilty pleasure BBQ is Bill Millers, something about the po boy plus with sliced brisket and fries that does the trick. But since the closes Bills is 2.5 hours in Seguin I don't over eat it. Plus I really like their condiment bar.

Kruez, Smitty's, and Snow's are my favorite BBQ places, each one has their own must get items.

Bill Miller's is just fair, but fast. Their fried chicken is the best fast food fried chicken. And, that organization trains unskilled kids better than any big, national corporation that I've ever seen.

Like many of us, the favorite BBQ places have a lot to do with being in close driving distances. Probably the places others mentioned are as good as or better than what I listed, but I'll never know. I'm 15miles from Kirby's, and they are, or were, in the top 50 in Texas, and I didn't list them. Great brisket, for sure, but the place itself is nothing special. My favorite, the Pit Master, has the whole package - good atmosphere, some cute waitresses, old country music, and really good food - which includes the tater salad.

There is no 'best' BBQ place.

Agree, I like bill millers a lot, but I eat there instead of mcdonalds, what a burger, etc. if I'm looking for good bbq and not just something quick easy and affordable to make the bear in my stomach stop growling then I wont be going to bills.

Luling City Mkt. in Luling is good.

Like PMK said there are many kinds of bbq and I can appreciate and enjoy most of them. Don't think there could ever be a bar none best, every time you eat it its different.

I love everything about BBQ and that is why I started the blog in my signature for fun. I try not to be a snob and like all styles, but I do have my own personal preferences and my top 5 can change depending on the consistency of the pitmaster. Like the poster above the best bbq can be found on my pit, but I'm cooking one brisket at a time and not 40 so I admire those who produce fantastic bbq for the masses.

My Top 5 Currently.

Evie Mae's in Wolfforth, TX
Franklin in Austin, TX
Killens BBQ in Pearland, TX
Heim BBQ in Fort Worth, TX
Labarbecue in Austin, TX

I concur. We have six threads on top at this time. Maybe we need a sub-thread that is sticky like the Gardening thread on the DYI forum.

I went to the Wagon Wheel in Ozona today and got a sliced brisket sandwich to go. They pile on the meat! I would have like the meat sliced thinner than the 1/4" slices, and more seasoning. I did eat it all, and would probably go back.

Have not, looks a little to high falutin for me. It better be awful good for $12.00 for a cheeseburger and chips, $4.00 for sides of beans or slaw eek2
Okay serious have you eaten there, if so how is it?

I made the trip last night to Smoky Rose in Dallas.

Tried the brisket and Jalapeno / Cheddar sausage
both were very good with a light smoky taste, brisket able to cut with a fork.

sides were good (a little pricey)mac / cheese and pinto beans

One of the desserts came with Henry's home made ice cream - that was delicious

Next trip I am gonna try the ribs and pulled pork, I saw several plates of that walk by.

Great experience with staff and really nice atmosphere, patio are gonna open soon.
