I am interested in finding a way to feed rice bran for an extended period of time since I live so far from my lease and because I want deer to pattern to it. From what Ive read, most people dump it in a pile and once deer eat it, that's it.
Reviews for the Pile Driver automatic feeder are terrible. Are there other automatic feeders for bran meal?
I've also considered using a 55gal barrel on a tripod with a toilet flange on the bottom to a 4 inch pvc pipe that extends close to the ground like a down spout free choice feeder. Anyone tried this?

I know a guy. I'll see if he's ready to release it to the public. He's been testing a timed rice bran feeder setup for a while now and he said he's satisfied with the results. He uses my patent pending technology in his design. www.thehammerfeeder.com

It will NOT feed rice bran powder. The hopper has to be a special shape or the rice bran will bridge off inside the hopper. Been there, done that. Call Bruce at 5126351475 for information on his design.

I've been using rice bran for a few years now in conjunction with my protein feeders and it is incredible how the deer react to it. I noticed last year they were selling rice bran pellets in 40 pound sacks at Atwoods. That would be your ticket to use. Call around to Atwoods or a local feed store and ask about it. Thanks Stykes. Are you feeding it free choice or broadcasting it like corn? I wonder if it'll swell and clog like protein in a corn feeder.

Thanks Stykes. Are you feeding it free choice or broadcasting it like corn? I wonder if it'll swell and clog like protein in a corn feeder. I have not used the rice bran pellets as I use the powder to put into the funnels for my protein feeders to get the deer to eat the protein. I only noticed the 40# sacks of rice bran pellets towards the end of last year. I have considered using it as a supplement to my corn feeders. It should easily cycle through a standard feeder but will most certainly be susceptible to rain and dew the same as protein pellets would be. It would seem further inquiry into the use of the rice bran pellets is needed to know exactly how well it feeds through a feeder and the response from deer. Maybe others here know more.

I used M-G rice bran pellets last year. I put it in my timed Hammer feeders, set to feed 10# a day (one tube full) at each feeder. The deer loved it. Unfortunately, the pellets broke down and powdered up pretty quickly. Then the feed bridged off and wouldn't fall. I never had a problem feeding protein with these two feeders so I fault the rice bran pellets.
That was my experience.

I've also considered using a 55gal barrel on a tripod with a toilet flange on the bottom to a 4 inch pvc pipe that extends close to the ground like a down spout free choice feeder. Anyone tried this? Txhntr - Yes I've tried just about every conceivable method to feed Rice Bran. From Tubs to Totes. From augers to paddles to standard protein feeds. Rice Bran Meal is a finicky feed. It is so fine as Hammer mentioned it wants to bridge and will not fall in your typical feeder. It has taken me several attempts and 5 years to perfect it. But I've finally figured it out. The feeder I posted above has been feeding non stop for two years. It works! It will hold 6-7 bags of rice bran..depending on the supplier bagging it. I have mine set to feed 5 lbs in the morning and shut off and 5lbs in the evening then shut off. This gives me 30 days before I have to fill it again. It also eliminates feed loss to coons and porcupines. They will clean out the trough though if the deer have not eaten it all. But the bulk of the feed is protected and shut off by a 1/4" steel door. You can feed it up to 6 times a day with The Hammer Timer. You could feed it 24x7/free choice or you can feed it only during daylight. I have several instances where I have trained mature bucks that were 100% nocturnal to come in during daylight hours if they want to eat.

Yes sir...I see your in Houston and I assume Hunt in Val Verde. I hunt on the Kinney County / Val Verde line.
Good news you can get Rice Bran @ Del Rio Feed or Texas Farm Store in Uvalde.

pretty interesting.... Our bucks will come to rice bran several times a day and night during the rut but barely touch it any other time...Interesting set up but I would dread seeing that feed tray after a few days of rain....

Interesting...thanks for the feed back. Our deer are feed snobs. On our ranch if you run out of rice bran they will go to your buddies or neighbors if they have some. Deer will walk by and sample protein, corn, cotton seed, alfalfa, Chafhay - but they will stay on the ricebran until they are full or it's gone. I can put out 200 lbs of rice bran in tubs and it is gone in 3-4 days. Rain has been addressed. The tray is angled so water runs to the end and drains off. I have had these feeders running 24 x 7 for the last two years which have been the wettest in recorded history with zero issues. I contemplated a moisture sensor - but so far it has not been an issue.

Where can you find rice bran in the DFW area?
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

**Feeder Sale**
I offered a sale on another website @ $1000 per feeder. So I wanted to do the same here.
Requirements are simple.
First 20 feeders with a $500 deposit.
20 is the magic number as that puts the full shop to work.
Thanks, Bruce
