I found this on another forum but thought it would help the newbies like myself. lonestarboars gets all the credit for pics and text. I'm not that smart......YET! The first picture above shows shot placement for a clean kill on a hog. As you can see in the second picture the lungs and heart are farther forward than a deer. This turns the traditional behind the crease of the shoulder shot into a gut shot and a lost hog. The preferred shot placement would be directly in between the ear and the first dot on the hogs shoulder. Center neck shots will take out the spine and drop the hog in its tracks. If the hog moves as you shoot (hogs are always moving) you will hit the head or shoulder. So, do we all agree??

Totally agree! Now if only they stayed that still
A real hunter never returns empty handed. Spending time in the wilderness temporarily satifies the soul, but leaves us longing for more.

Any of those shot placements will kill a hog quickly but I prefer high should, neck, ear in that order

I thought I put a good neck shot on this hog, but he took a second round to his back leg and guts from my 308. I also dumped 6 to 7 rounds of Federal 185 grain HST 45 before he died. I chased him around 200 yards with with 4 rounds in him, before I dumped 5-6 more in him. You can see the exit hole on the left side of his neck. One tough hog.

So, who's gonna stick those red and white dots on the pigs for us?
All kidding aside, that red dot location works for me quite well.

between the base of the ear and the eye, basically blows their head in half.... works phenomenally! Also the red dot spot depicted in the photo works and is a fairly easier target. I'm going to go ahead and apologize for the graphic images you are about to see, and my over excitement lol. 300 win mag 180gr hornady superformance carnage.

I know people who purposely gut shot or shoot pigs in the butt so they will run away and die I know people who claim that as well. Only thing I cant figure out is why they go looking for them after they shoot them. I think its just an excuse for them making a poor shot and not being able to find them.

There are hunters and then there are eradicators, which one are you? I for one hunt, if I harvest I take the meat.
