I've only seen two small (4 and 30ish) flocks this whole season.

It's not what it used to be, but what is anymore? I wasn't around for the "good ole days" so I honestly can't compare anything to them. I just know there are plenty of geese on the properties we lease and manage to shoot geese everyday. I'm not going to tell you that we shoot 40's and 50's everyday because that is not the case, but our clients are going in on a feed every morning that we hunt. We have had a handful of single digit hunts, but that's why they call it hunting. Overall we are averaging over 25 geese per goose hunt with parties that range from 6-8ppl. All our hunts take place over decoys and shooting decoying birds. We've had a lot of hunts this season in the 30's. On a bunch of them a lot more should have been harvested if it were for better shooting. I'm sure if we got all our guides together and did a hunt that number would really jump up, but that's not why we do it. We enjoy showing people that have never been under the spin that experience. Does it happen everyday, no. It's hard sometimes to get a group that's never goose hunted to understand that you can't start aiming at them while they are coming in or that you can't be sitting up in the spread.

I can honestly say that at multiple points this season we had 50K+ geese feeding on us and roosting. Heck at one point we had 8 legitimate feeds going on and to us a feed is at least 5K birds.

The birds are getting smarter that's for sure. But we're going to keep chasing them and providing roost and hunting them until they don't come anymore, but I doubt that'll ever happen. We still have rice fields with plenty of food on the ground that they haven't cleaned up yet and they are about to switch over to green and every plowed field in the area in loaded with that vegetation for them.

I'm sure it does suck if you got to experience the "good ole days" of 80-100 bird shoots all the time, I guess in some ways I'm glad I didn't experience them because I really enjoy what we have now.

Those articles sure are depressing. . . and yes my question was about the TX coast. I know about big CO shoots in Ark, MO, SD, etc., but I was curious about just regular season hunts.

And is has been 8-10 years since I've heard of or seen any real big shoots. Amazing how much things have changed in really not so much time.

"The birds are getting smarter that's for sure."

I can second that.

When we were in the panhandle end of last year we had flocks of 100+ that would come in to our spread, but they stayed really high up; 100+ yards.

Then just one, sometimes two birds would break out and drop down really close to our dekes. Like dummies we would blast those birds. The circling flock would then just take off, never looking back.

So then we thought not to shoot the break out birds. That didn't work either. Those birds would land in our dekes and upon realizing they were not among friends, would start to "call out" uncontrollably and again the flock took off.

This was Saturday with 3 of us. My gun jammed on a 10 goose group and then had 200+ come in and never got a shot. Grabbed my backup gun and it was to late.
