Has anyone hunted around the lake benbrook area? There seems to be many parks, and even an area you can walk in off 377 close to 1187 that seems to have plenty of deer and fishing off of the creek. I have done some scouting in several areas and even have game cameras in several areas all around the lake. and all i can say is MY MY MY!!!!. Well has anyone done any bowhunting??? Come on people. Tell me the truth.

Don't think there is any public land to hunt around Benbrook. However, I know folks with private property that have taken some monsters out there.

MY MY MY what a big fine you'll pay if you get caught hunting out there without a permit! grin It's fairly hard to draw a permit, but yeah there's a few deer around the lake.

I know people have been hunting around lake benbrook, because i have had pics of them on my game cams. They have been with bows and it looks like maybe shotguns. Maybe they are pig hunting or varmint hunting. I just thought I would ask.

Sounds like OP is the one that is hunting at benbrook without a permit. Why in the hell would op buy and place game cameras on land he has no rights too?

It falls under unattended property. There is an entire long section addressing it in the Title 36 regulations. Starts with...
"(a) Personal property of any kind shall not be abandoned, stored or left unattended upon project lands or waters......."
I don't think it is enfoced much on game cameras except on hunting areas where other hunters email in with GPS coordinates so the ranger can get them when it is accompanied by an illegal feeder or semi permanent stand. Or if they suspect the user is hunting illegally. I imagine too if they are on the heals of a poacher, having his game camera with pictures would make good evidence.

Of course they have. Permits have been issued for the entire season in blocks of two weeks each hunt period. Just trying to help you out. If your scouting to hunt there this season, DON'T DO IT. To take a deer without a permit/permission on corps land is a jail felony. Varmint hunting is also not allowed on Benbrook, no Bobcats, Coyotes, Furbearers, etc. I know for a fact permitless hunters have been arrested for deer hunting without a permit on Grapevine and Lewisville in past years. Not worth ruining your future over.

Go by the project office and find out when and what you need to apply for a permit next year. It would also give you a chance to verify what you can and can't do on the hunting areas this season. Every corps hunting lake has it's own local rules and area hunt managers change those individual lake rules constantly.

I checked a few game cams a little while ago. And just as I thought, there were 2 guys dragging a doe they killed in front of one of my cameras. It was in one of the parks off Benbrook. It wasnt killed today. But deer are on the move.

They were probably drawn hunters with a permit.See Sniper John's post right above yours.I saw a pot-bellied buck with a nice rack cross 377 one night at Whiskey Flats.Coming from the junkyard on the west side of 377 headed to the bean field on the east side.

I am not sure if you can get a permit or not. It was in Mustang Creek Park. Thats why i have been asking about anyone hunting over there. I know people have been hunting there for a few years that I know of. I just run some cameras because I live down the road and I like to just see deer. I actually have a lease in Council Grove Kansas. Been hunting there 3 years now. I gave up hunting in Texas because it pissed me off that no one would let deer get some age and let them grow. In Kansas at least I know there are many really big deer and you never know whats going to step out while you are up in a tree.
