You need to learn how to fall. Its too easy to fall and not break a bone and never let the gun hit the ground along with maintaining muzzle discipline. Here is an example

You need to teach SniperRAB how to fall. whistle

dang, that picture reminds me of one of the last hunts my dad was able to make. I had a 12' open tripod with a bass boat seat on top with a shooting rail around the front, the whole top part swiveled so the gun rest was in front of you as you turned. Anyway, my dad was 87 y/o and I shadowed him crawling up the ladder portion to get him situated, then I went back down to retrieve his 30-06. As my foot hit the next to last step, my foot slipped and I went over backwards from about 10 feet up, landed flat of my back but his rifle was held over my chest never touching the ground. He watched the whole thing from the perch up top. After a few minutes trying to catch my breath, he whispers "you okay?", I just gave him a thumbs up since I still didn't have much air in me. He then whispers "when you catch your breath, bring me my gun and be a bit quieter about it this next time!" I had to laugh. When I got back up to him, he said "thanks for not dropping my gun".

but no, I do not leave gun or pack in the stand even if I plan on being back after grabbing a bite to eat at the truck or camp.

I always place was secure. We hunt 4000 acres in the panhandle. Last year my uncle brought a buddy and both left their guns in the blind after the morning hunt. Went back 4 hours later and both were gone. They were as much in the middle of the proper as possible. At least .75 miles from the closest road. The only guess was the farmer had contacted different people to plow cotton and they were out there. I used to leave my but not anymore.

It's up to you!
It may never happen, but it only takes one time and that would be one too many.

I know several people around here that they take their rifle to the stand on opening day and take it back out on the last hunt. Stays in there all of rifle season.

I am guilty for leaving it during the day while I am gone but that's about it.

With the fluctuations in temperature changes and moisture, I'd be afraid having a rusty mess of a rifle after that long in a deer blind.

Never leave the rifle in the stand. There are times when it is tempting but no way. One of our other hunters does during the day.

Let's think about this. Suppose a youngster finds the gun and has an accident. Did you safely secure your gun, or do you have some responsibility? It's not worth the chance just to save yourself some effort. I often carry more than 2 guns to the blind so I understand the temptation.

Nope. Take my weapon to and from. Wouldn't leave any in the gun safe but I can only carry so many at a time.

it was sarcasm but I would bet the majority of people who fall from a stand don't break their weapons.

i would imagine the folks that do fall
weren't paying attention to where they
were at and what they were there for,
that and sleeping.

Nope. Guns and scopes cost way too much to take a chance.

They are in the blind from the time I get there and they stay there until we come home.

Nope, too close to the border and the main hwy. The guns come down with me every time, even to pee.

Never. But I don't hunt in a box blind either. And I only carry one when I hunt. Taking two is silly

I've done it a few times during bad weather. A few years ago when everything was frozen for a whole week, I'd leave my gun in the stand instead of sliding around and possibly busting my arse and hurting the weapon.

Definitely during rain and sleet. But I'm not in south texas near the border or in east texas near the crack head thieves.

It depends, I might leave it between morning and evening hunt but not over night. I left my crossbow this past weekend.
