287 from Amarillo to Stratford is 4 lanes no issues. 75 MPH 287 from Stratford to Texas Line is 2 lanes with lots of passing lanes. 75 MPH 287 in Oklahoma is 2 lanes with some passing lanes. 65 MPH 287 in Colorado from State line to Eads is mostly 2 lanes, watch out for Springfield you can easily get a ticket there. Best place to eat is BJs in Lamar. From Eads to Limon it is two lanes but lots of passing. Watch out for Antelope.
Colorado is a giant speed trap.

...and theres a country cafe in some small town way south of Limon that is a must eat at for breakfast, across the street from a city park in the middle of town...that was a Looong time ago..but still remember the pancakes and steak and eggs ...BH had to drive a while from there and freaked at the idea of driving thru Denver & over Berthoud Pass to Winter Park. Ron The Cafe is Ruby's, and it is in Limon the lady who owns the cafe is my Aunt. Really good breakfast and lunch. Used to be a Ruby's on 287 in Dalhart too, great place...

Rustler. the only problem I see with the routes you posted is the overall speed needed to average what it computes out. 70 mph ave. is very difficult to maintain over 1800 miles. We will travel about 12-14 hrs per day and get a motel, old men need a good night's sleep. We will leave Oct 25th and plan on getting there on the 27th. Going to go by Lilja Barrels Operation and Proof Research Barrels. Proof Research is outside of Kalispell and Lilja is in Plains. Coming home may be somewhat faster !!!

Dlallder, that is a long ride regardless which way you go, enjoy the trip and good luck hunting. Stopping for places of interest has never been my strong suit but I am trying to change. Last year I stopped and visited Hornady after driving by it for 25 years and I kicked myself for waiting so long. Plan on stopping again this year on way back.
