Funny you mention this, I was in Gander today and asked myself the same question. With Sportsmans Warehouse struggling, you gotta wonder.

I hate to see them go but they are not even close on being price competitive.

Well, I guess I will have to keep alert on when the liquidation sale is. I haven't been to a Gander Mountain but I just may have to go.

word of mouth?
i went to the sportsman warehouse and the dude behind the gun counter was thinking the only store comparable to gander mountain that would survive is cabelas. i think he was talking about bass pro shop and stated that the fine gun room was shut down and there was only one salesperson per dept. i might go there tomorrow just see its it true.
i went to have my windshield repaired and the guy said business is down 60% from last year, said it picked up after folks received their income tax returns but he expected it slow down again once that money dried up.
hate to see any store closing but seems likes its becoming common.

Gander did well in Tyler then Academy came and I doubt they are doing nearly as well.... As for the store in College Station, the idiots build the store directly next door to the Academy, they need to fail in that spot...Gander is overpriced, over specialized and overall a bad buy on nearly everything they sell....
the man at the top of the mountain didn't fall up it

I can honestly say that I enjoy shopping there, but their prices are high and seem not to have near the different variety of items that BPS or Cabelas has. But most importantly for me being that I live no where near an outdoor store, their online store SUCKS!!!

One major downfall of those stores Gander and Sportsmans is they either had NO or just started internet sales. Its probably the only thing that keeps BP and Cabelas afloat. Can you imagine rent on those lots they are on? I think in todays time people want to be able to shop from home. Especially when gas was so high last summer. jmo

You might try this link from MSN MONEY....
GMTN
Their stock price has been on a steady decline for a year, plus income was down -$22.1 million, a net loss of -$13.1 million.
