"Best bean field rifle" says title...didn't ask for caliber...
Setup with a Sako TRG42 and go from there... Thank god someone knows how to read My personal favorite was always the sendero in .25-06 but I think the accumark in .257 wby trumps it Winchester also made a bean field gun but I can't remember what it was called
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Is there an official list of features a designated "bean field" rifle must have?

Is there an official list of features a designated "bean field" rifle must have? Typically they are heavy barreled, heavier than a sporter weight gun, most wear synthetic stocks and chambered for flat shooting calibers.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I'm not sure it would qualify but I really liked the Tikka CTR in 308 I fondled today. I even liked the stock. Bolt was super slick.

I think .308 falls under 1200 ft/lbs at 600 as well, though maybe not by much.

I think .308 falls under 1200 ft/lbs at 600 as well, though maybe not by much. We were always told the rule of thumb was 900 ft.lbs on impact for southern whitetails. However a .308 was never really a beanfield caliber due to its velocity.

At some point I'd like to do a 243 Catbird/6-06 Ackley pushing a 90 gr Scirocco at 3800 fps.

Guess I'd have to use my trusty old 270 win Rem 700 Sendero, gun just shoots for me, I would probably want a scope with some turrets though, not sure me and the old Leupold could guess at trajectory good enough.
My furthest kills have been logged with a borrowed CZ chambered in 222 rem and a Rem 700 adl chambered in 223.
It's hell eatin em live
