^^^^ This. The HP bullets expand too quickly, and will reduce your penetration greatly. A FMJ bullet will penetrate deep and have a wound channel that is at least .452" wide.

I have shot multiple pigs in traps with 45 and 10mm. There is a noticeable difference in penetration and stopping power between the 2. The 10mm is pushing a 200 grain bullet much faster than the 45, and it is a little smaller in diameter for better penetration. Sure, the 45 is tops for 2 legged critters. But the 10mm easily has it beat with more power and better penetration on pigs.

Try one of these! I'll be giving them a try this year with my .357.

Of course a 45 will do the job.

Ive seen a 225 lb boar shot behind the shoulders double lung with a 22 mag that ran less than 100 yards and died within site. A hole in the lungs is a hole in the lungs, trick is finding them once they die.

At 10 yards I would have shot at them with the birdshot. I also usually keep a rifled slug or two in my pocket if hunting private property.

I would have had no problem shooting at those hogs even with a 9mm....as mentioned above, a .22LR will kill a hog with correct bullet placement.

The question all of us have to answer is this: how confident are you that you could hit a hog in a lethal spot (CNS or heart/lung) with a handgun at a range of 15 yards?

It'll be fine.
