well......he finally messed up....this pick from this morning at 11:30am. brother took my nephew to shoot a doe that has been coming in. F15 messed up and came in at 6:55. Nephew flung some lead but just missed him!!! $h!t happens. he will be back. so close....

What happens on Monday?

Guns up and I both had a busy weekend working. I was stuck doing the Texas Motor Speedway victory lane pyro on Saturday night and it was getting "that time" quick. We finally got it all closed down and I jumped in the truck and hauled butt back to the Lake Worth area. Race traffic was a nightmare and I was sure that I would pull in well after dark. I made it onsite with about an hour of legal hunting light, and quickly made the decision to just walk rather than sit in the stand. Guns up and I have a pretty set path we walk around the property and it zig zags perfectly through the most of the acreage giving us a good chance to see something. I walked very slowly and quietly, just hoping to see anything for the night. I had covered about 80% of the property when I got to my stand. I have been paying close attention to my surroundings up to this point. I took notice of some fresh tracks in the mud and was focused on them. I walked about ten yards watching the tracks when I remembered what I was supposed to be doing. I glanced up and there watching me on the hill was a young buck (so I thought. I could see his little basket rack shining in the setting sun. I am a gun loaded kind of guy, but I keep the bolt in the forward but up position. I tell you this to because I am also a "check em through the scope" kind of guy. Well I took a quick peek at this buck through my scope and just about dropped my gun when I realized the basket rack I had been looking at was F-15. He was fresh off a rub and only his main beams and brow tines were polished white. The rest blended in with the trees behind him. I tried my best to get steady on him off hand, but the fever got me and I just couldn't get settled. I told my self that I just had to make it to the sappling 10 yards in front of me to and it's over. As soon as I started moving again, ole F-15 got the jitters....

Gotta do some work now.

For the record, I tried to tell Guns Up that this was gonna be my deer. I made it to that little sappling and put it on him and squeezed. I watched his front end buckle as that 140 berger did its job. 6.5mm/22-250AI at 100 yards and he went about 8 yards and balled up in a clearing in the trees. And that was that.
Low fence free to roam 15 point. He died within 75 yards of the Fort Worth city limits. Funny things about that evening are 1) if I had hunted my stand, he would have walked within 50 yards of me and I would have never known it, 2) had I been 5 minutes earlier to that spot I would have never seen him, 3) had I been 5 minutes later same story.

That's an awesome animal. Way to stay after him.
