Sounds like the typical "two fools" scenario. OP should have vetted the "outfitter" better and for sure, run like hell when he saw the setup. As far as the outfitter, if you're legal, more power to you, even though that leaves a crappy taste in my mouth. I sure won't be your fool.

There's only one reasonable solution I can come up with after reading the whole thread. The OP needs to get back in his vehicle and drive back down there and pay the man off in full with cash.
Then proceed to whip his arse all over that two acres he scammed you into believing was a hunting ranch. Then get back in your car and drive home. I think this would satisfy all parties involved.

Folks: I can certainly appreciate all the responses. Firstly let me state that we all hunt different ways, we are a low cost hunt, so we don't hold hands, we don't guide...whats the point, its a feeder. AS one astute member pointed out, you pay after you show up and check the place out...this hot check writer checked the place out, with his three buddies...all three saw axis on the ground when they rolled up...then went to their truck and pulled out a check and paid for the hunt. SECONDLY: and let me b very clear, I did not ever threaten anyone. however guys, state law in texas is very clear on hot check writers, my advice is: do not pass hot checks in texas, NSF, Stopped or Cancelled checks in Texas are a crime, this is not an opinion but state law. NO HUNTER deserves a da up their business end. So once again to my hot check writers, I am extending you an olive branch here before we get to the point of no return. FOR THIS FORUM, guys let me be clear, had you hunted in our rudimentary loft, while I was in bed sleeping off a Gulf War Injury and Surgery...you could have still shot these two axis for a one time fee of $350..being that a single yearling doe axis runs $425 at auction, it's a square deal. Sleeping off Gulf War and Surgery.. You're coming to the wrong place for sympathy bro. There are tons of combat vets here many wounded, I'm one of them.. What a crock of Sh*t, you have a habit of patting your back like you're special. Get over yourself. I typically do not engage in this kind of dialog but seeing this common theme of yours is making me sick..

Funny how you do a background check on these types of folks and they never disappoint. It reads as you would expect it to.

Who the hell leases 2 acres to 4 people with rifles?
I don't care what the pictures show, all I can say is.. to me.. it looks like people pulled up into a housing subdivision, went into the back yard shed, opened a door and said, "okay.. when they come out of Bill's house next door from eating breakfast, you whack 'em!".
That has to be the freaking most unreal lease I have ever seen...
Not ragging on this situation, not voicing an opinion on who is right or wrong, I just felt like saying that has GOT to be the most pathetic lease setup I ever saw...
Sorry.. not trying to be mean or hurt anyone's feelings, but good lord....could not bite my tongue..
Carry on...
Hope all parties get what they deserve.
btw - addition - he has to have more than 2.2 acres. Not sure where that came from. I own 1.9 acres and I cannot believe anyone would hunt it due to how small it is. Maybe with a bow.. but damn sure not a rifle.
Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

Yes believe it is because his website says something about birds. I just noticed he took down a post on a Texas Leasing facebook page when confronted about being a scam. Went as far as to lie saying they didn't come out and when caught in said lie, he basically degraded a woman for her looks. Pretty sorry person IMO. Wish I would have taken a snapshot of the conversation.
If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting. Aristotle

Why and or how did the game camera get moved between those two alleged pictures? The pic from 0821 has 1103 pictures on the card but the one from 1119 only has 2 pictures on it. Somethings screwy.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

The phrase "Get a real job" comes to mind.

I was wondering that same thing Is it a coincidence that the one guy saying that the proprietor of the operation was legit, is also a guy supposedly working in the realm of IT?

You would think as vocal as he was before hand...and literally played as a reference for this so called "outfit" that he would at least speak up now to defend his reference or admit that maybe his opinion wasn't the best of the guy.
BE CAREFUL WHEN BOOKING HUNTS.....BE PATIENT WHEN SEARCHING FOR A HUNT OR GUIDE! IF YOU CANT AFFORD THE HUNT YOU WANT DON'T SETTLE FOR A CUT RATE ONE....KEEP WORKING SAVE YOUR MONEY AND THAT DAY WILL COME! IF YOU CANT FIND A GUIDE THAT YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH....KEEP SEARCHING...THERE OUT THERE YOU JUST HAVE TO FIND THEM! DON'T SETTLE!!
I can honestly say myself that I had to learn the hard way a few times...and as many of you have put it...if you hunt enough you are going to run into this kind of thing!

Been travelling and just got to see the updates to this post.
Let me clarify a few things:
1) It was not "broad daylight" when we got there. It was about 9pm before we got to the place so we didn't get a good view or feel of the area. Carlos was in a hurry, and told us he had a 2nd place we could hunt, asked for money, and ran off.
2) We texted him within an hour saying we needed another spot and wanted to hunt first thing in the morning. He responded and said to meet him at 5:30 in the morning only to no show.
3) The 2 hunters who were waiting to meet him arrived at the original spot at 7am to join up with us and tell us what happened. That's when we found out about the no show and started to look around at the location we were at.
4) Saturday morning we showed up prior to daylight. When the others got there at 7am and told us what happened and we finally had enough daylight look around, determine the distance to houses, etc and realized we had been scammed.
5) We walked around a little to see if there was a way to make it work (we wanted to hunt) and thats where the photos of us came up on the game cam. We could not find more than 1 safe shooting lane so we talked about it and determined that if we stayed (basically eating the meal we ordered) we felt we would be liable for payment. We collectively felt that if we didnt "eat the steak" and if we left as soon as we realized it was a scam, we would not be liable so thats what we did.
The photos of the axis on the game cam 3 hours later prove nothing. Chances are that with 4 hunters in one blind they would have never showed if we had stayed. In that tin barn, you could hear it if you even thought about farting. We did see 1 axis doe on the property driving up the driveway towards the barn when we first got there. Thank god we didn't shoot at it because there were houses all around. We didnt know about the houses until the next morning when we could see. We left shortly afterwards.
Carlos, short and sweet....happy to talk to you again...... in court. You feel froggy, jump. Lucky we dont take your [censored] to court for the deposit you still scammed us out of.

I didn't even notice that. To the OP, that picture with the axis showing up later and is from another day as is proof by the picture count and the fact that the game camera was moved. Might want to document all this trash he is putting on the internet before he deletes it. To the outfitter, or whatever you want to call yourself, you are a moron trying to put a picture from a different day up and thinking that will justify you screwing someone.

This is what you get with "discount" or "cheap" hunts.
