bentman, do yourself a favor and look up chokes/.410 and pattern densities. The .410 is equal to the task in many situations, be they dove, pheasant or even duck. "Chokes are way overrated if you are not in front of the target or bird when you pull the trigger".....Really? You mean you have to lead you target?....isn't that the same as with a 12 or any other gauge?. Oh, BTW, a .410 typically has a longer shot string than a 12. P_102 And you think that is a good thing? Long shot string + fewer pellets = crappy performance/limited range. Well if you open up the forcing cones on the .410 the pattern will tighten up just fine, and will make a pattern from skeet bbl. as tight as I/C.

Opening, or lengthening, forcing cones does nothing to improve patterns. It was originally done to reduce recoil and rarely accomplishes that to any noticeable degree. The only way to tighten patterns with barrel work (other than installing removable chokes) is to back bore the barrel, which in many cases will result in less velocity due to increased barrel volume. I have shot 5 Stand with Barney Who when he was shooting the 28ga and 410 and its embarrassing how he makes those long shots look easy with solid breaks.
I shoot a Citori 28ga and I actually shoot it better than the same 12ga gun.
