The only good thing about sportsmens in lewisville closing is the insane clearance prices they had.

As of yesterday it was announced that Sptmns is closing 23 stores and selling 15 more to a Canadian firm. Only one in Texas is the Roundrock store closing. There will still be 29 stores in the US operated under the Sportsmans name. These are in addition to the stores closed last year.

It was a shame. Where else could you handle ever pistol in ever caliber and barrel length?

S-W has been 1st on the list for quite some time; their financial situation has been weak for over 2 years now.

Don't be too surprised to see Gander Mountain start closing many of their stores also. The only thing that saved them last time was Cabelas buying out most of their catalog operation.

SW and GM both had the same problem...expanded too fast with not enough operating capital to keep things going!

This really is disappointing to see. We drove by the one off 1604 in San Antonio yesterday and saw the signs about closing. It was one of my favorite places to go.

I believe they tried to expand too quickly and then didn't provide enough marketing to attract customers especially when competing head to head with Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops. I miss the Lewisville store. They had fair prices and good selection.

no offense taken, been there, stood to be waited on while the clerk talked to his buddy about their fishing trip, same way at the gun counter,I really liked the place, the first time I was there a young man at the reel counter was the most polite and informative, few months later he was gone and the help just didn't seem to care. asked one of the guys at the gun counter if they had any gun vises in the back, I DON'T KNOW, turned around and talked to someone else. so I just quit going.

ya an experience like that wouldve changed me too....but iknow that sometimes people just cant get good help. one thing i noticed when i moved to San antonio was the poor work ethic that these "city kids" had. most of em ive talked to dont give a rats arse about there job, and where im from u do a job as good as u can and help the customer as much as possible....
