Sorry guys, I've been away. But yeah, the rock felt lighter than it should be based on the size so that prompted me to put it in water. I have something setup for next week at UT Arlington and will report the findings! Thanks for the interest, keeps me motivated.

Pumice is about the only rock that floats in water. Pumice stones are sold for removing callouses and sanding.

I would not handle that stone too much. eek2 Please tell us you did not drink from that glass after you floated the stone in it. eeks333

"Use it to clean your toilet. Pumice can be used to remove copper rings from the inside of a toilet. Put on a pair of nonporous cleaning gloves to start. Then simply rub the pumice stone over the ring using a scrubbing motion. Repeat until the ring is gone."

http://www.ecamellia.com/Volcanic_Pumice_Stone-325.html

"Due to the balance of abrasiveness, softness and integrity of the natural volcanic material, natural pumice easily sloughs off rough dead skin cells from heels and soles of your feet keeping your feet eternally in shape for sexy high heels and flip flops alike."
