So far there are three of us that have seen the cat in the area. Me, my friend & the rancher that owns the property across the road. Everyone agrees it must be a juvenile cat, much larger than any house cat, but still smaller than an adult lion.
The game cameras will be going up shortly. Do all three people DRINK the same hooch????

While I am the first to ‘doubt’ the existence of a melanistic cougar (AKA black panther), a sighting of a ‘black cat’ (other than a house cat) is NOT necessarily out of the question. A dark colored ‘Jaguarundi’….viewed in low light conditions would indeed appear ‘black’ and would have a physique different enough from a domestic cat…..as to be readily apparent. BUT, it would NOT be the same size as an adult cougar (even a juvenile), nor would it have a head proportional in size to that of a cougar. Just the same, a brief sighting under poor conditions….might lead one to conclude they had seen a ‘black panther’. The jaguarundi, though quite rare….. does occur in Texas, in a very limited scope. http://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/species/jag/

I ran into a Black Cat in East Texas. Game Warden came out and took paw prints. He called it an Albino Mountain Lion...I said, "no, it was black", he still called it an Albino.

Still trying to catch her on game cameras.............. Would very much like to see a better print, especially the 'pad'. The absence of claw marks can be 'telling' but depending upon soil conditions may or may not indicate a cat. Unless I am just not seeing it, I don't see the impression of the fourth toe...where three very distinct (and deep) toe marks exist? I don't understand the lack of a fourth impression? The toe marks do look teardrop shaped and I could be convinced that the third toe (from the right) is actually the 'leading toe' (again consistent with a cat, right front paw), but I can't make out the shape of the 'pad' which would pretty much tell us if it was feline or not. We do appreciate you checking back in and providing what you have at this point.
