I have been after this boar since I bought my place almost 4 yrs ago. I could get a TC pic of him every now and then but never seen him in the daylight. He would flip the trap off the bait pile or root under it to bait even if I tied the trap down. He had moved back in about a month ago and was rooting up everywhere. He made the mistake last night that cost him his life. He had moved the trap about 15' and had a hole big enough in the bottom net wire to get out if he had figured it out. I had the trap tied to the Huisache bush in the background. He had beat this old trap up last night. I planned to shoot him in the head when he was standing back far enough so that he would fall where I could still open the gate. He lunged forward after the shot and had the gate blocked. I had to roll the trap then shove him backwards to get the gate open to get him out. He had some cutters on the one side but the other side was broken up bad.

Must have been the unlucky week for hogs. My folks set our pen trap and caught two nice sows. It sat with a feeder in it for over a year and hogs wouldn't touch it. Moved feeder to a bow blind and 3 months later after not feeding it they set it on a whim and it caught!

That's a beast of a pig. Rarely do the old boars fall for the trap. Bet that was a SOG to get out.

Awesome Boar, How often did you have him on camera the past 4 years. I assume you are low fence down there. What can you tell us about his movement and or habits you have noticed.

Big old nasty rascal, he needed to go.

I had him on TC 4-5 times I can remember over that period. Mainly on trails and one of those times was the corn feeder at the house that was not in a pen. I never had him on TC at the water trough. I knew he was big and smart the first time he flipped my trap of the bait pile inside it. I then staked it down with T-post or tied to a bush/tree. Then he would root under it to get to bait. The only thing I can think of that got him was a young sow in heat was in the trap with him or before him. I have caught a big boar in a trap with a sow also that was in heat before then caught another huge boar the next night in the same trap after those two.

That one ear looks torn, wonder if he had a run in with some hog dogs and won the fight?

A neighbor one ranch over to my NE told me his son runs hogs with dogs. So my guess is he might have had a couple of run-ins with dogs in the past. I know the neighbor told me his son was after a big hog that he had seen at his stock tank 2 yrs ago now.
