First or second week of March. I found one shed antler on 2/26 last year, but for the most part it seemed like they kept their headgear late this past Spring.

I've never searched for sheds and have never found any accidentally. I will start this year and will be teaching my new chocolate lab pup to search.

Biggest ones I have every found have been right around my house here in the Bexar county urban sprawl.

It will depend on the area of the state you are in for a start date. I love to find sheds and have spent many hours looking for them. Years like this make it difficult with all the rain we have had. Plenty of ground moisture and if it warms up early this year the weeds/grass will take off. That spurt of new growth makes it difficult to find sheds.

Charlie will find them! Great looking dog. But, I sincerely hope he will not tear up as much crap in the back yard as that yellow (my wife insists she's a "champagne") lab of ours. Daphne is her name and she's now 3. That dog has cost me thousands. Sprinkler systems, pool equipment. She threw up a rock a couple of nights ago (3a.m.). We love her and she's one happy dog, but when I pull in and she's wearing that "Oh,$#@^!" cower, I know I'll find something torn to hell.

It's funny you say that creek. My wife just sent me a picture of our lab laying between the lower and upper section of our coffee table. I said "he looks happy and comfortable" She says "what are you talking about? Look at that scratch he put on the wood" I laugh to myself and say "if you didn't buy a frickin $1500 coffee table from Pottery Barn it wouldn't even matter" She's still figuring out a smart arse comeback I'm sure

I still find sheds during deer season, but they're usually from a year or two ago. I also find all kind of skulls and skeletons. And sometimes Dr. Pepper 3 liter bottles with water in them. Can't figure out that one. lol
If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

do any of you tie a rope or bungee cord about buck head high between the legs of your feeders. I have been reading where people do this and when the bucks eat under the feeder and raise their heads it helps knock the horns off. I don't have a clue if it would work, but I've heard of crazier things being done.

How do you teach your Lab to hunt for sheds? Mines 3 now, he loves to get out and explore and figured this would give him something to look for

I'm in Northeast Texas and shed hunting can be difficult here to say the least.

I usually start looking hard around Valentines day. I look all the way through April. I usually find a shed or 4 every year.

Thinking about putting out traps on some of my feeders. I saw on the Maine game wardens a show there they stake out chicken wire near feeders and as the bucks are eating there antlers get knocked off by the chicken wire. I fiquired I would give it a try. It's very unusual that I find sheds on my place. I have only found a couple in the last 15 years.

thanks for the photo. Seems like it would be easy to build a few. So you don't put them near the feeder but out in the woods.

we use straps around our feeders. I place the shed traps in the woods because I have some nice bucks that never come to the feeders and only see them on a trail cam or during the rut. wish I had a shed huntin dog
