If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

that's awesome, is that the original photo? The original of that photo is owned by my wife's uncle. She has a few other originals of him with his hunting dogs, they are really cool too. I need to scan them to share. He was know for dressing the part of a frontiersman in his later years, kind of the Wild Bill Hickok look.

Cool photo. Do you know if he was ever wounded as a Ranger. I have a book about the Battle of Plum Creek and in it a Robert Hall was wounded in the thigh.

I do not think he was ever wounded as a Ranger, but as a minuteman he was twice. As you found he was wounded at Plum Creek and received a powder horn from Sam Houston for his actions in that battle.

Its a bit hard to find, but the book, " Now You Hear My Horn" by James Wilson Nichols has Hall mentioned in it several times. Nichols was my wife's gg grandfather. He kept a journal of his adventures in Texas from about 1840 until close to 1900. About 30 years ago the Daughter of the Republic of Texas and the University of Texas was given the journal and had it published. Not many copies are around but a few libraries have one. I believe San Antonio has one.

Nichols recollections of the Battle of Salado, and Plum Creek are great, he mentions other relatives of my wife in his recounts, good stuff. It is neat that our wives ancestors were brother in arms during the founding of Texas. "Life of Robert Hall" is also worth reading. Hall recalls many battles and several stories of hunting in Texas.

My wife and I found something else kind of interesting in Nichols book. In the 1850's Nichols worked at Winters Mill, Tx. for William Carvin Winters as a carpenter/ furniture maker. Bill as he was called opened the first water powered mill in central Texas just west of San Marcos . William Carvin Winters in my gg uncle. Winters Mill is now called Wimberley Texas.

I would have to get that one enlarged and reproduced in color.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!
