Pulling for you...best of luck. Very nice to even have a shot at that one. Please keep us updated!
We kept it as a pet for several months until it got run over by a truck. Then we ate him.

If he grew that much this year maybe you should wait until next year and see what he does.

If he grew that much this year maybe you should wait until next year and see what he does. I would if he was more in the middle of our property, but he is close to a neighbor and don't want to risk him. Also a no rain year is a risk.

Awesome, I love seeing these threads. Now, how about letting him go to 6.5?

He's a helluva buck regardless of score. I wish you the best ground checking him.

I'll say upper 180s to low 190s. I think beam length will keep him under 200

If this doesn't prove the value of letting a buck reach maturity, then I don't know what does. What a great example of the strides a buck can make with just one more year.

He's on a low-fenced ranch and the deer hangs near the neighbor's fence line, according to the OP. He also stated if the deer stayed more to the center of the property, he might wait another year before trying to take him. Can't say as I blame him.

That deer must be dead this weekend, sir. Phenomenal buck.
Looks to be 190s-200 gross.

Why is this coming year different than the last?

Some dominant bucks on low-fenced ranches will cover 5 square miles/day during the rut. Inside larger high-fenced ranches, too. That one square mile home range may be accurate, until the testosterone kicks in. Once that begins, all bets are off.

I suggested leaving him if it was HF. Being LF, if I was sure he was 5.5, I'd be hunting hard for him.
Good luck, OP!

That still doesn't explain the difference between this coming year and last year.

That's a buck of a life time. If he steps out I would shoot. It may be the only chance you get.
