Only corn I put out now is eaten up by the deer before hogs have a chance to find it. I would like to keep it that way. I also have oats so deer move in from all directions on it.

With the current weather, hogs should be in your area regardless mowing down the oats since it's the best quality food they have to help regulate their body temps. Surely you have some ground scrapes close by? grin

YES... that's why I asked!!! If, like, the Goliad deer are going to go 'poof' in 4 days, well, I'm calling in sick and leaving RIGHT NOW. Be about my luck, I'll be there in 3 days, so guess the upside is, I'll at least get 1 day in before they just disappear. bang

Nothing is hitting the oats. No hog sign now for over a month since I have declared war on them over the past 3.5 yrs. Pick a scrape as there are every few yards on trails, roads, around feeders and edges.

Looked down the powerline and saw a doe, she took off and was 100% sure this is the buck that stepped out about 250 yards and looked at me.

So I thought, I need a pic of him. So I looked over and grabbed the camera and took 2 pics. 1 hr 15 min later I decided look at my pics and see this! Not the buck that looked at me, but the 9 with the fork and kicker. He never came back nor did the doe to corn.

Eventful morning?

Just to many trails and to many scrapes. I would have to have 20-25 cameras at least. Yes it was eventful. This buck was not on any TC and he came from a feeder/food plot to the SE. After this buck ran west with that doe, I also spotted another framey big browtined buck pushing does 15 minutes later about 600 yards away on a ridge top to my east. Only caught a glimpse of him for a split second as he walked to me in Huisache and Twisted Acacia. I opened the window to get a better look and never saw him or does again. My guess is he went out the back of the brush and over the ridge. Heavy frost made deer easy to spot in thicker cover this morning.

Good news is the frost killed a lot of vegetation this morning. I could smell the wilted/frosted green driving back in at 10.

Heard the same thing for us this morning on the frost. Makes me cringe knowing what the feed will be this Winter.

Do you corn that highline down past where the buck is?

Yes when I do not hunt that blind, but when I hunt I corn about 50 yards past the oats to the blind. I have been corning it every night for the past 2 weeks when I hunted the blind to the east of it. I am trying to draw deer from as far away as I can for numbers at this location. The more does, the better the odds of seeing one of the three bucks or a new buck. I actually saw 3 different bucks pushing does this morning from that blind. Luckly that doe has been on corn every hunt for 2 days now at that powerline/feeder. If she settles down and hangs tight to that area the road feeder will drag her out this afternoon. It has every hunt there for 2 days now.

I'd hunt the second spot in the morning, then move to the first feeder/blind after an early lunch. If the deer still come in after you are running around with the tractor, you won't disturb them by changing stands.

No show this evening. Only saw 2 bucks for sure, one close and one at 500 or so moving in and out of openings. Mainly does on corn and some chasing really late. I sat till all the deer were gone and had a buck at 400 yards chasing a doe back and forth across the powerline. I did see one lone nubbin buck fawn that is the same color as the fawn and doe this morning. So if that doe was around she did not come into corn. Will see what the morning brings.
