The video of this hunt has been posted before but I was unable to post until now... I am fortunate enough to have a daughter that is not scared to shoot or hunt and a wife that lets me take her! She has spent a good bit of time with me hunting and regardless if it's making a 3+ hour drive to hunt or sitting in a blind and not seeing a single animal she has been patient. When she was 5 she shot a hog but we were unable to find it. We had good blood and it was hit but it ran like hell.... At 6-7 she hunted with me but we never really got that good opportunity to get a shot off and it is not the easiest thing to get an animal in front of a kid and get them to be able to take a shot... Late last season I think she could have had a shot at a doe but it did not come together. This year I knew work and 2nd kiddo would keep us busy and I did not know where or when we might get an opportunity to get out so I contacted Cody about a MLD property that we could go to right around her B-day. Haleigh has been practicing a bunch in the backyard and she has a 7-08 of her own but we had trouble getting a good eye relief on her rifle and for time purposes we started working with my .243. I had her shooting deer targets in the backyard sitting in a chair off a bog pod and thought this was probably the closest to sitting in a blind we could do. On Haleigh's 8th B-day weekend we met Cody near Waco and got ready. Hunting with a little one can be tough!!! After 2 years of trying it can wear them out and wear you out!!! Cody was amazing at working with Haleigh and talking to her about the hunt and what she needed to do. We have practiced everything I could think of but Cody was able to give her some great pointers and it proved to be an amazing help!!! We got in the blind early on Saturday evening and it was not an easy sit! After seeing a few little deer Haleigh was excited to shoot but we were able to get her calmed down and wait to see what else might show. The hunt was almost ruined by an old doe that thought something was up but we stayed still and waiting proved to be the best thing. With a bit of patience on my girls part and a lot of coaching from Cody she connected and dropped a nice buck! She was very nervous about losing the deer after the first hog she shot 2-3 years ago ran but we did not have to worry about that!!!! S&B 5-25 (Helped the Eye Relief Problem..... Bog Pod with Haleigh Standing in the Blind making a great shot!!!
