Wanting to know about quality. New or old.

I have a LH Savage MK II, and have been happy with it. I was wanting to know of other options that are attainable for non-wealthy people, or stick with another Savage MK II.

Looking for best bang for the buck. This will be a trainer for my 7 year old daughter that is right handed, and I would like for it to be a 50 yard tack driver.

I handled a CZ 455 Mannlicher today and loved it; they were asking about $440 as I recall. Not sure it's the best choice for a 7 year-old. A while back I bought a Savage Rascal (pink!) for an 8 year-old girl and was pleasantly surprised by the rifle once I installed an inexpensive scope. It had the accu-trigger and was much more usable and accurate than I expected. It's not a rifle to keep for 10 years, but it's a pretty neat 2 or 3 year rifle. It's also very reasonably priced.

CZ's are very nice guns. I have had great luck with my Savage bolt actions in 17 HMR and 22 Mag. Although I don't own one I would consider the Ruger American Rimfire, they make a youth model with interchangeable stock pads to change the LOP and they use the standard Ruger box mags.

Remington 521 T. They made a youth model in it also. They are a great rifle.

CZ is nice but not cheap.

Ruger 77/22 is nice but not cheap.

Looks like Savage is the best option, maybe a Ruger American, but not sure on their quality.

I wasn't very enthusiastic about the Ruger Americans I handled. They were gritty and sharp edges.

Older Remington Bolt action 22s were great shooters. I haven't tried any of the newer stuff.

Older marlin bolt actions with the microgroove barrel. I love my model 780.

Pre-Remington Marlin if budget is concerned. In the order I would personally choose.

Ok, for bolt 22lr, the Win 52 is very hard to beat. I love mine. Noah needed his first 22 bolt gun and his dad and I settled on a CZ. He mounted the scope and I zero'ed it for Noah. Very impressive gun for the money.

Now, if you can pry yourself away from the bolt gun, a 10/22 is just as accurate at fifty yards, and yute stocks are available everywhere. Got a beauty in Walnut on my bench just waiting for the right yute.

Check out the CZ 452 Scout. Gonna' run about $300. A buddy got one for his son as a trainer and it's an awesome little rifle, definitely not a "toy." I have a lot of CZ stuff and their quality is never anything less than impressive.

I have a 10/22 that is over twenty years old. I'd rather kids have to slow down, cycle a bolt, build the muscle memory, and become safe with a bolt gun than a gun that automatically goes into battery. Then I'll move her up to a bolt action centerfire. She's gonna be deadly when she's 18.

I have an Xt-22, the front sight was put on crooked from the factory,so I had to put a scope on it. I prefer tube fed 22s, and I like 22s that can handle short, long, and long rifle. Plus, I can cycle CCI quiet and specialty shells through the bolt.

Hands down the sako quad.

Yessir. For the price one cannot beat an old Marlin as far as bolt .22s go.

With most budget situations I'm a Ruger fan and am with auto-loading .22s with my 10/22 build but a recent M60 buy has me coRnfused as well. I know my 25MN bolt fish (magnum) is sweet and flat and since the newly acquired 27 YO long tube/barrel 60 is as well....and we're talking bolt on a budget, my conscience cannot recommend anything other than a nice 20+ year old $150 Marlin.

THIS! They are truly tack drivers! As for Browning T Bolt, bought one of those for my ex FIL and it wasn't anywhere near as accurate as my CZ.

X10 on the CZ. I especially love the one that comes with a Kevlar stock
