I am surprised by all the love for the 6.5x55 Swedish - love mine, just didn't think they were that popular. In its third season, I will be toting a Sako Bavarian Carbine (full stock) in 6.5x55 wearing a new first focal plane Primary Arms Orion ACSS scope. Yes, I know - inexpensive scope on expensive rifle but I am a sucker for a cool reticle and the results on paper at the range have been awesome (.6 in at 100 yds for a five shot group). Any problems and I will go back to my Leupold VX-R.

and will add to the list my Marlin 30AS lever gun in 30-30. Have a couple of sets late in the season as we begin to spot and stalk after the rut where that little gun is perfect. To this day, that rifle has harvested more deer than my .270 and .243 combined. Open sights as well. It always sits in my truck or at for backup tracking through dense stuff. Bought that little guy back in the early 80's, and think I paid around $200. Ammo was $7 a box. He's got scratches all over him now and each one reminds of a hunt.
When all of my boys are hunting with me, they get first choice on a gun. The sweet Browning Abolt Medallion topped with a variXIII scope, the Tikka T-3 in 243 stainless with a BDC scope or the old mans 30-30 with open sights. A bit of a fight of each gun to use in the morning, but more time that not they respect the Marlin and skill it requires.

Badazz. Would love to own something like that but Big Brother won't allow it without a special licence in my part of the world. I refuse to get the licence as once you do you are on the radar.
