There's outfitters all over. I know of one with horses near Dunton, but I don't know who specifically provides that service. Half the fun is packing out your own bull, anyway.

Most of where we hunt isn't too bad. There's a direct route, downhill, to the highway. Some other spots would be pretty bad, but we don't hunt there unless we have to. Like if someone burns breakfast, I'll show them the way to those spots.

ha, I might agree with you 20-30 years ago but I have come to the realization that "fun" and packing an elk out do not go together ...

What would your thoughts be on an ibeprofen+altitude advantage combination? [/quote]

In my opinion & I am no expert here, the altitude advantage is nothing more than a combination of herbs and antioxidants. According to the literature, there are no significant altitude sickness prevention benefits from the antioxidants. They might energize you but that's about it. The herbal remedies, mainly Gingo, is very inconclusive as to whether or not it has any benefits with altitude sickness. I personally have not tried it so I will not say it is ineffective. It essentially is just an herbal/vitamin supplement. Most of your daily vitamins supplements contain all of this with the exception of the herbs.

I don't see any reason that would prevent someone from taking the two together. Personally, I would just take the Ibuprofen and or Acetazolamide and continue my vitamin supplements. Just make sure there isn't any reason you should not take the Ibuprofen (consult with your doctor). Some are more prone to having a stomach ulcer resulting in bleeding with Ibuprofen especially in higher doses. Per the study, they recommend 600mg three times a day (1800mg in 24 hours). This is above the daily recommended dose of 1200mg in 24 hours and therefore should be used with caution. Make sure to take with meals and not on an empty stomach. I would get an okay by your primary care physician just to be safe. Everyone's medical/health problems are different and I am not about to tell anyone to do something on a public forum without getting personal approval from his/her own doctor.

agree with theringworm ... from what I've been told, be sure you are very well hydrated PRIOR to heading up to higher altitude and you SHOULD be fine. I'm sure I will be overdosing on Ibuprofen shortly after getting up there but that's going to be in relation to aches and pains. Drink plenty of water a week or two prior to leaving and there shouldn't be any effects. I know nothing about the AA supplements (actually had never heard of them prior to this discussion).

Good to hear Sneaky, and figured if Chief Joe continues to climb that semi-circular tower daily, that he will be up to the task. clap

I should try to go see my gp sometime...

So I shouldn't just bring coke up there and assume I will get enough water from it??

Of all the fellas I have taken and hunted/camped with up there (including some wimmens) I have only seen one person get sick, he was a diabetic to start with. Well, there was that one other diabetic that lost his vision for a couple of hrs, both had type 2 iirc.

You fellas should give me all that money your going to spend on "cures" and I'll keep it in escrow for you....Only 10% fee whistle

I thought that stuff was pretty dry. Should keep you going good, though.

It doesn't happen often, but I've seen what it can do. It's ugly. I've spent money on worse things. On elk hunts, too.

I went to Colorado for vacation once. We were at 9k and it hit me like a ton of bricks the first night. Part of the issues was we went from Dfw to 9k in the span of 5 hours. But it sucks hard.

Well duh BOBO, you "aint" got no bidness being at 14,000 feet SMDH roflmao Goat hunting? That is over tree line and not the average place you spend the day, done it too, but just got short breath big time! Thinks I went just over 12k, would have to look at that mountains peak elevation again.

I hunt from 4500-10k, depending on the animals, usually somewhere in the upper middle.

We were at tree line on the 4th, near Silverton. A few of the boys thought they would have a foot race a couple hundred yards up the mountain. I met them up there in the truck to drag them back in to the cab.

Pretty close. Throw in a quick draw, and you've got it.

Question for those of you who car camped last year, how was the cold? I have a small pop up camper, and even thought about pulling the trigger and getting a motor home. But I think I will just pull the back seat out and lay the middle seat down in my Excursion, then sleep in the back. I was just wondering if you were able to bundle up enough to stay warm at night? I don't think I will try to run any kind of heater due to no electricity, not wanting to run my battery down and carbon monoxide worries with propane.

I was perfectly comfortable with just a cheap sleeping bag. It didn't get that cold, but you're no worse off than in a tent. Just bring enough to stay warm.

I plan to bring a small propane heater for the back of my truck in the bed. Also building up pallet to get off the cold bed.
I also have a 15 gal container I want to fill as I get closer with potable water.
