Another Turk......... I'd go with the Stoeger before this Weatherby/Turk. The Stoeger is one fine gun for the money, a Benelli in disguise.
I looked at the Stoeger 2000 on Gun Broker earlier this evening. It does have a certain Benelli like heir to like the Franchi's. When I was in BPS the other day they had a Stoeger 2000 and I didn't even look at it. I'll probably get back in there sometime in March and I'm going to give it a look. I was real surprised by what Weatherby was offering for an auto loader. I always put them on the same level as Browning, Franchi, and Berretta. Obviously they have changed direction. I can remember "way back in the day" if it had the Weatherby name on it, it was AAA first class, now you can buy there stuff at Wally World. Kind of sad what has become of that company.

Benelli wa looking into suing Stoeger for patent infringement on the 2000. They sent a lawyer and an engineer to check how it was built. The main difference was the (recoil?) spring was outside the magazine tube instead of inside the buttstock. Benelli was so impressed eith the quality and engineering that they bought the company.

The one time I spent more than I should have on a gun was the purchase of my SBE. I caught hell, but it was so worth it!

I bought my son a Stoeger 2000 the other day in 20ga. So far it has performed just like my Benelli and 1/3 the cost. Only time will tell.

For the guys wanting a Benelli at 1/3 the cost you won't get it...sorry. You'll still get a nice shotgun but it's not a Benelli. To me the proof is all the bad things I've heard people say about the Stoeger M2000. It seems like way too many people have bought one only to have to send it in for repairs when they first get it....once the kinks are worked out it's fine. Others have bought them and they have been fine...good for them...they bought a shotgun that did was it should do.
Personally I don't think the lower cost is worth the gamble and possible headache. Especially since many guys end up getting a benelli anyway.
No shotgun maker is going to make a model where every single one is perfect...there will always be some lemons...but over all the amount of lemon benellis is way less than Stoeger.
Buying a gun for a kid is a different issue...I don't think any kid needs a $1500 shotgun...not until they are an adult and buy it for themselves. Buying a cheap but reliable gun for a kid is the prudent thing to do.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

Which is exactly why I bought my 10 year old son the Stoeger and I shoot Benelli.

Yep...I read your other post...that's why I said it. Very reasonable thing to do.

That's going to be part of my situation, once I get an autoloader, my son is probably going to want one. He's not likely to get one at the level that I would buy one for myself, mainly because it is looking like I will have to buy him a competition trap and skeet gun with in the next year. If I can get one (an autoloader), by next season I may let him shoot it some and I'll dance with the 870.

I would imagine if I do buy a Benelli it will probably be the M2 Field in APG camo. It's going to be at the top of my list and I figure the Stoeger 2000 at the bottom and everything else we have discussed in between. I figure I'll probably spend a minimum of $1500 for a good trap and skeet gun and it could go a lot higher.

That would be cool, but just like most everybody else I have limited resources and lately they've been getting little more limited.

Save some money and buy a black synthetic. The camo on most guns will show wear spots over time. The Benelli M2 and Beretta 391 Urika are both very good shotguns. You wouldn't go wrong with either one of them.

We went to sporting clays practice yesterday and we took the A5 and the 870. I shot both of them and hit about 90% of the clays with the A5 and probably about 50 to 60% with the 870. There is a huge gap in the quality and workmanship between these two guns and it shows when you shoot them.
