Anyone out there own a new Tundra? Trying to decide between a Silverado or Tundra. Never owned a Tundra but have had Silverado and F-150. How do you like the Tundra? Any regrets? After checking out both, it looks like I can get more for my money in the Tundra without having to add a lot of aftermarket products. For the same price, the Tundra already has bedliner, better tires and bigger engine. If I were to bump to the 6.2 in the Chevy, the price would be significantly higher. Just looking for any input from guys who have owned both. Thanks.

I don't have a new Tundra. Mine is the 2007, which was the first year of the present body style. It's been a great truck. I have about 122k miles on it and still have the original back brakes. I went forever with the original battery, and nothing has ever broken but the radio. Wait, that's not true. Some mass air flow thingy died, but was replaced on warranty, as was the radio. Average mileage is right at 17. I get 70k on tires. Never burned a drop of oil. I'm honestly shocked that I could have a truck this long and spend nothing except for fuel, oil, tires and wiper blades, and the front brake pads. And I had them replace belts and hoses, just because I wanted new ones. Prior to the truck, I owned a 5 Series BMW, and the cost of ownership was a lot like child support. This truck is really low cost of ownership.
I know nothing about Chevy trucks, and I guess I never will.

I have a 2007 Double Cab with the 5.7 engine. I did have the driveshaft replaced it was leaking oil. I get about 17-18 MPG day in and day out but I don't do a lot of city driving. Still have original brake pads but it only has 98K on it. I have not owned a big three vehicle since 1984 and I plan on it being an additional 30+ years if the LORD let me live that long.

I bought a left over 2014 1794 edition Tundra late March...I've got almost 2500 miles on it. I've owned Fords previous so I cannot compare it to the Chebbys. I can tell you that if Toyota and Ford got together and took the good things from both they would put the other 2 out of business and we would all be driving the same brand of truck Anyway...to the Toyota...the fuel mileage is not great (I suspect the Chebby is better...the Ford was) but it has all the power you need and they've been married to the 5.7 for years so I expect it is very reliable. One thing that makes the fuel mileage feel worse than it actually is that stupid little fuel tank...talking 22 gallons is your average w/ ~ 330 miles per tank. The upgraded interior is really nice. Their is only three negatives to the interior. I wish the back seat (crew cab) was level when you raised the seats up...there is a 4-5" increase under the seats. I wish the cooled seats worked as well as the Fords. I wish the back up sensors were programmed with a bigger priority than the radio...if you have the radio up I can't hear them. The ability to roll down the rear window is really nice and I love that feature. They've put the majority of the features that you'll use on the left side of the steering wheel...my left hand is on the steering wheel far more than my right. They put the little section in the arm rest that will fit a phone perfectly. The turning radius is better than my Fords. Good luck...go drive them...I think you'll just like one over the other.

If this helps, I've got 305K on my 2000 Toyota Tundra 4x4.... Done things I shouldn't had done with the truck. When tires fall off this one I'll be buying another one....

I was all set to buy a Crewmax until the bed size and fuel mileage really set in...

The bed size is the one concern that I have.

the bed size doesn't feel any smaller than my F150 crews was. I haven't actually measured but I bet there isn't much difference. You want a crew it's at the expense of bed space. I normally put a cover on mine so I turn them all into a big trunk anyway.

I sold my 2001 Tundra with 275,000 miles on it. The only thing I had to do besides basic maintenance was put a starter on it. Bought a 2007 from my father-in-law so far I'm happy with it. Like previous post the gas tank seems to only hold about 20 gallons with fuel light on. The book says it has a 26 gallon tank. I'll buy nothing but Toyota from now on

I've heard they're a solid truck the only down sides I've heard of are the small fuel tank and the gas mileage, I've heard is 13 to 15 at best.

Got a 2008 Double Cab TRD with the 5.7, sitting at 131K right now. Been a great truck, no failures outside routine maintenance. As mentioned, has power to spare but gas mileage isn't that great when compared to other offerings out there, especially when towing. I do wish they would offer the big Crew Max cab with a 6.5' bed. That little 5' bed would be no use to me.
I did modify mine with a 2.5" lift up front and an additional leaf springs in the rear. The factory rear springs were just too soft to haul anything. It's spent more than it's fair share of time off-road and bumping around the ranch with heavy loads in the back, yet the front end is still tight. That is amazing to me as all my past trucks would have had multiple sets of ball joints by now.
I plan to drive it to 200K and am confident it will do it with minor expense. This was my first Toyota, but the build quality is far better than any of my previous Fords and Dodges. Maybe they have caught up since.

I got my 2015 Limited in December and love it. A pleasure to drive. It is equal in gas mileage to the 2000 150 I traded in for it, about 22 mpg Putting a bed cover did help.

I had a 2010, 2012 and now have a 2014. All great vehicles. Just decided to upgrade on each purchase. All have been 4x4 Crewmax pickups. There is a ton of room in the cab, which is why I like it. The bed is the only drawback if you tend to carry much there. My Utah vacation and hunting trip had the bed full (2 large ice chests). Toyota here in the Brazos Valley will take good care of it too. I had Chevy's before and just decided to change. Did not want a Ford either. Am not sorry I have the Tundra.

I bought an double cab 4x4 04 in December of 03 and have only had to replace the tailgate handle twice, brakes once recently, a couple of batteries, and tires. KNOCK ON WOOD but nothing has broken that I didn't cause to break!! 5.7 V8 is not great on gas but it rides decent on the highway. The main reason I bought the truck was interior size and the roll down back window!! I have never had a truck this long and don't plan on getting rid of it until I have too!

I've owned a 2000 Tundra (Gen 1), a 2007 and 2011 Tundra (Gen 2) and now a 2015 Tundra (Gen 2.5), all 4WD Double Cabs. All great trucks! I put 70K or so on the first 2, and almost 100K on the 2011 with no major problems (alternator did go out on the 2011 but was replaced under extended warranty). The 2015 now has about 7500 miles. Mainly just change the oil every 5K miles and keep air filter clean is all you have to do. Like some others have said, gas mileage is average for a pickup, but it is a beast of an engine and tranny. I towed a lot with all of my Tundra's and you hardly knew the load was back there. The inside is roomy and very comfortable, and the truck is solid as a rock. I've owned Chevy and Ford and would not go back to those brands after having owned the Tundra's. Oh, one other thing, if you go with the Tundra, go with the 5.7 V8...the other engine options do not help that much on gas mileage. My 2 cents worth.

I have never owned a tundra but spent a fair amount of time in company trucks that were. I have owned a late model GM. Im not a fan of the AFM on the newer vehicles. I never had a bit of trouble out of it or the rest of the truck, but I still didn't like the AFM and read about a lot of people who did have problems. Only complaint about the tundra is they are a little harder on gas.
If my choice was between those two I would be buying a tundra.

Id go with the Tundra out of those two... my buddy has a TForce with a gooseneck hitch in it... we loaded his 65hp tractor loader/backhoe on it the other day.. prolly 10k+ lbs or so...if it wouldn't have had trailer breaks it would be rough but man I was very surprised with how that truck handled that kind of load...

I have a 2011 crewmax and love everything about it except the mileage. The tank is 26.7 gallons I believe. I have played with it and driven 382 miles between fill ups. When I filled it up I went to just shy of 26 gallons. Does everything I need it do and probably a whole lot more. I have only had Toyota products since 1995 and only once have they had less than 225k on them when I got rid of them.

We just added a 4x4 2008 Tundra double cab to the fleet. So far it's been awesome.

I have a 2013, 5.7, 4x4 Crewmax. I got the grade package because I needed the bench seat in the front. Gas millage is around 13 in town and 15 to 16 on the hwy. Gas tank is only 20 gallons. I don't mind the short bed that much and the bigger cab definitely makes up for it. The biggest beef I have is the gas millage; I wish I got 4 to 5 mpg more. However it's a 4x4 V8 truck, so I wasn't expecting to get great millage when I bought it.
Thanks, Rich
