Tundras are great. You haven't even heard of bad gas milage until you've seen the 6.2 vortec. Not to mention the 6.2 makes 345hp while the 5.7 in the Yota makes 385. The motor in the Toyota is hands down better than any other gas truck on the market. The small bed sucks but no truck really has it all.

Went with the Tundra. Was surprised that I got more for my money with it. In my price range, I would have had to go with the smaller V8 in the chevy and it didn't have bedliner or decent tires. So far very happy with the purchase. 0% financing for 60 months didn't hurt either. Thanks for all the advice.

Congrats on your new Tundra...I was surprised with what they paid for my Ford and offered me theirs for...Toyota isn't most expensive by several thousand anymore.

Watch out for those V6 Eco's on the road. I hear they're pretty quick if you're into that sort of thing up

You won't be sorry. Dont pay attention to the gas light and onboard fuel range. Figure 26 gallons at 15 per and that will give you a good range.

My cousin had the same scenario as yours. In the end he bought the Tundra due to cheaper maintenance and more practical usage.

Here's what I can tell you;

I've owned Chevy, Ford and Dodge trucks. They've all been good trucks. My last one was a Chevy. They wouldn't warranty the instrument cluster right after the expiration date even though they knew the units were faulty.

When it came to buy a new truck, I drove all of them.
They were all very good but when I got behind the wheel of the Tundra I knew what I was going to buy.

My Tundra Limited 5.7 is a 2010 model. I want to buy a new one but the darn thing just runs too good, looks too good and NOT ONE SINGLE THING on it has stopped working properly. Nothing. It is truly amazing.

I'm now waiting on the '16 diesel model. It will have a Cummins 5.0L turbo diesel and it's supposed to get around 25 mpg. I want to check that out.

Go Tundra.

I doubt he will have any issues. I had a 2008, 2010 and 2013...never had a problem with any of them.

The Tundra's typically have a higher resale / trade in value versus Ford, Chevy or Dodge.

Shouldn't have to worry about resale value if it's as good as people say. My in-laws swear by yotas and put many a miles on them. I go with American as much as possible flag

Toyota has said there will be a Tundra wrapped Cummings next year. We'll see if it is basically like the Dodge Eco-diesel...which by all accounts gets super fuel mileage but is generally a dog for performance.

I would be interested if they fit a 2014 Tundra because I'm working on operation de-chroming my Tundra. I did the whole front end and door handles last weekend...I've got mirrors and running boards still left to do...those dang amp steps sure are tempting and sort of calling my name though wink .

From what I have read yota and nisan will both be using a 5 liter cummins rated around 300+ hp and 500+ lb ft or torque. I have heard estimates of 25 mpg on each.

If the 3 lieter v-6 ecodisel at 240 hp and 420 lb ft torque is only able to muster 28 mpg hwy I somehow doubt the 5 lieter v-8 is going to make 25 unless its rolling down hill.

Its going to be neat to see though.

Curious...does Toyota negotiate much? I heard they did not.

Got a 2014 and love everything except for mileage. Rock solid truck and built right here in Texas. What more could you ask for?

I'd like a new Tundra, but the wife says "there's nothing wrong with the old one (2007), so wait till it dies". I don't think it'll ever die.

That said, it is possible to kill one, or at least wound it severely. My brother also had a 2007 model. He never took care of anything. No routine maintenance at all and he put many miles on it. That truck was suffering. He gave it to a teenaged nephew who knocked out all the dents and got a little work done on it and it's running fine. My brother can do evil things to equipment.

A buddy of mine had a 2004 model. Ran it for ten years and 220,000 miles then sold it for $9,000. Never had anything but normal wear and tear to repair.

Try that with another brand.

I love my 2014 Tundra 1794 but the gas mileage is terrible. This is partially my fault(lift and big tires) but 8 mpg is bad. took a little getting use to the transmission, it likes to downshift alot to maintain fast exceleration when needed.

If you put big tires and didn't re-gear it, then that is probably why it likes to downshift a lot.

That could be RC (especially if he went with 35's). Coming from a one fiddy to the Tundra...they do shift a lot more and try and stay in a lower gear. It's hard to explain but I've had to get used to the way the thing shifts too. Just to be clear...I'm not talking it hunts for a gear but when going slower or around a curve...it just shifts more often and you don't really know it until you get back in the gas (meaning you don't necessarily feel it downshift).

Bowsnrods gets 8 mpg in the Tundra? Either you drive like a maniac (no offense intended), are pulling a big trailer, or you have an engine problem. My average, in the 2007 and the big engine, seems to be 16.7 mpg these days. That's without a trailer, and the driving is 60 miles per hour to town and 35 miles per hour on the county roads. I get a bit better on the freeway at 70, which is around 18 if memory is correct, but I'm not often on the freeway these days.

8 mpg is not what that truck should be giving you.

I once talked to a guy who said cummins motors were the biggest POS's ever made. In explaining the problems he said he redlined it and when it hit redline it lost power but he could up shift and it would go again. Said he redlined it multiple times a day every day...
