5 1/2 months. I guess he's tired from a session back on obedience training. Worryingly he's lost all interest in retrieving right now, testing patience but he will get there!

he's probably teething and the bumpers hurt his mouth. I would lay off for several days and then use something that won't hurt his teeth. Just get him really excited the next time out. A toy, or a paint roller, or Bill Hillman recommends a softer bumper made by Chuck-it (sold at Petsmart). This scenario probably isn't the norm but it's very common for them to lose interest while teething.
