The high fence didn't turn out so bad after all. And maybe, just maybe one of those monsters will jump it. I can dream anyhow.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

Thats awesome, you only have to put of 3 fences now to have your place high fenced too! Congrats on a great score! Just shoot everything you see and the other neighbors will finish fencing the other sides for you. Bang... you have a HF with nothing invested. Good thinkin!

As far as the HF is concerned, far to many factors involved to have an honest opinion. One of the biggest factors is how large of a place are you talking about, and does it have resident deer? If it is a small place, no bedding area, could be useless. The only issue with power line right of ways is when the company shows up during the season to clear/maintain them. On my place, they work daylight to dark, and do it every other year. No need to hunt while they are there.
Thank you...thank you very much

Power lines & such are the most popular stand sites on leases. every one knows its illegal ta hunt deer at night.. Although did see one thread while back about place that suposably got permites ta cull deer at night, it got removed...

I would not have a problem with either the HF (they certainly are not going to trespass on your property and as pointed out can funnel deer) or the transmission lines unless I was planning to build a house under them.

I looked at a lot of properties that had high fences and would not touch a single one. Now, truth be told, that is a personal preference and had nothing to do with facts of whether it affected anything. MY mind just sees a direction that deer can't move.
BUT.. that being said.. I have seen land offered that had old photos of nice animals. When I saw this, or pictures without dates on them, I would flat out ask where the high fence was at. One realtor that was listing a place for his uncle (or so he said) got mad when I asked that. I was like, "yes, but where is the high fence located?"
He was like, "what makes you think there is a high fence?"
"your pictures are all from two years ago or do not have dates. That makes me think you made someone mad and they fenced you off and now you do not have recent photos of animals"
"well, there is only a high fence on one side, but..."
"yea.. so.. you have a high fence. Thanks."
So.. a high fence is fine, it really is. Just make sure you SEE animals, and ask when the fence was installed....look where the animals come from etc. If the fence was just set up and it cuts through every trail that feeds the area.. well, you might have an issue.
As with ALL land, do a little legwork. Then do some more leg work.. and after that, break out another set of legs and do more leg work. That is the key to getting a good spot, not whether it has a high fence.

Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

It takes about a week, and I just hunt in another pasture. It is odd how it ALWAYS happens during season though. I guess that is just the way there schedule is setup.

We have a high fence neighbor on one side. The best deer hunting is along the high fence.

I guess that is just the way there schedule is setup. so that would leave 2months & 3weeks ta hunt during the day, month & 3 weeks if thy clearing it during rifle season & no cost ta U for shooting lane. Still a good deal, high lines are usualy first place stands go up.. We were lucky, if they did it during hunting season, it took only couple days, deer get curress..
