I feel like either caliber is plenty capable of the job. I don't care much for the fail safes, Ive had expansion problems with most monometal bullets and the fail safes will behave very similarly. If you have to shoot at any kind of distance where the bullet has slowed down a little it will probably perform worse. A-frames are good bullets, but also pretty spendy.
I would echo HWY_Man and recommend a partition in either and your good to go. I have read a few articles where the 150 grain partition in 270 is noted for exceptional penetration. I haven't seen a lot of partitions loaded on our local shelves however I do see a lot of A-Frames which is why I chose them. there is almost no difference between an A-frame and a partition. your right about the fail-safes performing much like a monometal bullet...but I would put it in their shoulders and I don't want them running off.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Dumb question. Buy a box of ammo and take the 7. If you don't use your 7 rem for colordo elk hunting, then what are you goi to do with it?

Put that mono metal in shoulder and its gtg in my opinion. Main difference between partition and A-frame is the A-frame has a bonded lead core like an accubond plus the partition. The ones I have shot Didn't expand quite as readily on deer sized critters.

Quit being a tightwad and go buy you a 300wm, send it off for accurizing & load development with 180gr Accubonds and have them load you 1000 rounds. In 2050 you should still have a few hundred rounds so this is more of an investment opportunity.

I have killed several elk and more African game with the A-Frame. The A-Frame has a bonded core and thicker jackets. I personally prefer the 30 caliber 180 Grain bullet but in 7mm the 160 will be just fine. It is also a good choice to expand regardless of the animal tissue you hit in an elk.

Yup! txtrophy85 asked 270 or 7 Rem Mag. And we've entered into a cartridge debate as well as a bullet debate. He's got two good chamberings, one better than the other. Use the better one, done. No need to buy or build another rifle, no need to swap bullets. All the praises of the .30-06 for everything North American, and the 7 Rme Mag will out run it and out hit it. Run what you brung.
