I moved to Texas from Colorado about two years ago. I have heard it is pretty much "open season" on hogs year round in Texas when I was at the Waco gun show a couple weeks ago. What licenses would I need to hunt them and is there anyone in the Waco/McLennan County area wouldn't mind helping a "newbie" out? :-)

Just a general hunting license and depending on when you were born you may need to take the hunters safety course. They'll print that you've completed the safety course on your license. You can check into getting in the public hunting deal too. You can hunt the facilities all over Texas for a fee of about 44 dollars last time I checked. They will give you a book that gives all the details to the public hunting, and a small book for your rules and regulations for the general license. You may not find many rules on the hogs because they are a non game species. Open season all year.

Found a slew of hogs in my grain field today and the chase was on. Got a couple of the little ones with my feed truck.

OK. I have my hunter safety card from Colorado. It doesn't look like there is much public land around here compared to out west. Are there any hunting groups in the area or does someone just ask around?

This might be a long shot, but You can take a ride out in the country. If you see a lot of rooting in the ditches or in some poor old farmers field you might stop and ask the land owner if they would let you try to rid them of their pest. Sometimes they will say yes and sometimes no. Make sure the home front looks friendly before you roll up and ask. You could just leave your info on their fence post or outside of their mail box too. You can also post an ad in your local craigs list on the farm and ranch section and tell that you are a responsible hunter looking to hunt some hogs. Remember to always respect every little detail of the land owner. That way you can keep coming back. If you can help out around the property now and then, that cant hurt either. You could also go to a pro shop like a bow hunting shop and ask around. With less shots being fired increases you odds of finding some friendly folks to hunt with. There is more gun hunters, but you could try a gun store. just ask around. I know its tuff, but it can pay off. a good personality goes a long way. Remember the obvious always mind the livestock. good luck. I prefer to catch the farmers out by the road while they are mowing or working on fences ect. That way you don't have to drive on their property. People are spooky these days.

Went fishing and killed 2 on the way. My friend ran this one down with a .22mag pistol and shot it in the back of the head. I killed 1 in a swamp with the 39m.

Montague county yesterday. This is my buddies sow. I shot the lower jaw off of one. I feel bad about that. Never found mine but the blood trail was huge.
