...take that 223 Elk Hunting in most of the Rockies and the guy with a Star on his shirt will give you a new set of silver bracelets and a reservation at his hotel, if'n you are carryin a Texas Drivers License...and you can continue talkin the fantasy out with the guy in the next bunk until the store bought mouthpiece shows up...oh I forgot ...NP IS one of THOSE guys too...and mebbe how he knows 223's won't work on Colorado Elk, with his fancy readin' & writin' skills ....Just Sayin Ron

180grain Barnes XXX did a number on this bull from about 365. Blowing ice sideways and cold as hell! Great morning for Elk hunting no mater what your shooting.

I'd like to see a 180 gr unleaded Barnes bullet in .270. Probably as long as a Cuban cigar.....
Probably an oversight by Elkhunter49. I'm betting .308 or .338, rather than .270.

Used a 270 to take my first elk. 150 nosler partition at 250 yards made short work of the bull.

Actually the only 2 elk I have even killed were with. Hold for the applause ------ One with a 270 and the other with a 222. The one I got with the 222 dropped quicker than the one with the 270. And yes the one with the 222 was in Texas where a 222 is legal.

I've drove up and shot them with a .17rem when they come up looking for range cubes.....doesn't exactly make it exceptional or even adequate for the task bc of my extremely low sample size.

Probably an oversight by Elkhunter49. I'm betting .308 or .338, rather than .270. Not an oversight, I stated earlier in the thread I use an old school 300WM. I agree though, a 180 grain bullet in a 270 isn't gonna work!!

Love those Chocolate Horns Thank you sir, it was a hell of a hunt and my buddy and I damm near froze for 3 straight days before finding this bull alone in a small stand of Blue Spruce. The wind was so loud that he never heard us top the hill above him on mules. He was in good shape and wasn't beat up like a lot of bulls get late in the season! Baker

my .02, if you are more comfortable shooting the .270 than the recoil of the bigger cal's, I think the .270 is the way to go, your shot placement will be better than worrying about the recoil factor.

I would love to harvest one with a Bow I won't lie ...
In due time Would rather have a bow than a .223 for big critters. Will work for even for slow-witted rookies like me. So a man of your vast expertise shouldn't have any problem.

Your opinion is dead to me Clay I follow nothing you support Or encourage, my wife needs no job with your Firm, I deal with your bosses Family Daily and the high fence operations and to be brutally Honest and kind your hunting outlooks are offensive to me and dumb me down... Do what you need to do and say what you need to say and from this point forward I will as Sneaky, BNT and now You Simply Ignore you ...I need no one to come "save you" for a family members job ...BYE, Adios if you had a CLUE of behind the scenes laughter of your antics and your Boy Robin... And let the others who Laugh at you and they do daily trust me ( have PM after PM and text and phone call LAUGHING) Have fun with your narrow minded back woods views ...quite pathetic actually Have a wonderful evening and Chow See you on the other side Hand ...

If that little rant means you are done stalking me around and playing "yuk-monkey" then I welcome it.
Daddy always said you can tell as much about a man by those that don't like him as by those that do. I tend to agree with him.
P.S. If I know you or your wife personally I am not aware of it so there's nothing personal going on with me. I don't go researching behind screen names unless it's for a positive purpose/reason.

That seems awfully petty, Sniper. I don't care for how you act towards me, but I've never written you off, completely. I like to think that I don't know anyone very well based off of their posts on the Internet. I like to think that you're a good guy, and that we just don't see eye to eye on this forum. People have their differences. Acting that way about them seems a bit juvenile, to me, but what do I know? I'm just oilfield trash and have no business with the THF clique, I suppose.
