I live in the Lakeway area and we have ranches is different parts of the State. Our native bucks in Lakeway, Round Mountain, Mills County and Cotulla started dropping their horns about 3 weeks ago, especially in the Lakeway area. This is early...anyone else seeing this? After reading your post I have payed special attention while checking stock and feeding on properties in central, western, and far western Mills. Our bucks are still in full headgear. My brother and I stopped and watched a bachelor group of nine bucks cross the county road late last week and all were still carrying both antlers. What area of Mills is your property where the bucks have dropped their antlers already?

Saw a nice bachelor group of 4-5 deer and all of them still had their headgear. This was in Montgomery County (South East Texas).

Had 3 bucks eating my corn this afternoon. All had their antlers. Two showed up first, with the third one a bit later. When the third one (6 point) got close to the two 8 points, the bigger of the 8's dropped his head down and pawed the ground. Then he appeared to say "Awww, why bother" and went back to the grass and corn.
One thing of interest is that all three sets of antlers seemed to be a good bit whiter than they had been only a week or two ago. Was that just the light, or do they get whiter as they get close to dropping. I've never observed that, but maybe it happens.

Our peak rut didn't even hit till the first or second weekend in January. I herd/read most of south texas had a very late and/or un pronounced rut this year. Dropping early would seem strange to me, especially considering we had great rains and conditions going into and continuing through the season.

I have been finding sheds for about 3 weeks now, here in Rusk county. About 50% of bucks are shed or only have one antler left. They are in great shape and under little to no stress, I am not worried about it at all, 4 years ago the exact same thing happened and there was very good antler growth the next year.

Saw 3 bucks yesterday afternoon here in Rains county. One had shed on one side. Strange thing 2 of the 3 bucks were crippled in their front leg.

I have one young buck that is missing one antler as of two days ago on TC. Not enough deer activity in my feed pens to say if any other bucks have shed. Winter grass and weeds are going to be so tall by mid March I won't be able to see a shed on the ground.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Somebody hit a deer by my place last week. Didn't even have a head when we drove up. i guess he still had antlers cause somebody cut his whole head off.

Didn't get to do any searching, but was in Mills County this weekend and saw several bucks with no antlers, and several that still had full sets.
