Mine doesn't flop when walking, except when my short self gets into sage brush it catches on. Don't think that'll be a prob on a goat hunt.

I'm not taking that small of a pack on a goat hunt though. Mine flops bad. Think it's because it's so narrow

That's the packs way of telling you to get narrowerer. grin

I did 8 miles with one in CO up and down some nasty stuff. I love it for that and kept that canon I was carrying snug up against my back and held a gallon of water and the clothes I brought nicely. (Along with RF, Binocs, sleeve of bullets, WY saw and 2 knives & camera in a small foxpro bag)

Guys, thanks for the heads up on the exo pack. I haven't heard of this brand before, but it looks like this pack fits most of my needs. I had to get on a pre-order list for the 3500. I have been looking from something to replace my two eberlestock packs, and this pack should do the trick.

A true pack in hunt obviously requires bigger packs. Other hunts, it just depends on the circumstances. On my Yukon hunt a daypack/smaller pack was fine since we had horses we could bring pretty close to the downed sheep. Plus there was basically 24 hours of daylight. In AZ we all had big packs and needed every inch of all of them to pack everything out of the mountains before dark caught up to us.

Each hunt is different.

I just got an Eberlestock X3 lodrag pack. I run a 6.5 Grendel 18" barrel and it rides flush to top of gun scabbard. Just enough room for an all day hunt and is wide enough for no side to side flop. To me ergonomics of this pack makes its a great one for me. I only wish that the material was a bit more quiet such as fleece when going through brush. Not complaining because it's tough as nails....

I use a 5.11 tactical day pack. Lots o room and uses the yoke system for extra comfort. Modularity for adding rifle or pistol attachment. Camel back. Kinda heavy but durable for TX.

I have a Tenzing that I took elk hunting with me last year and liked it. It was really comfortable. I know it's more expensive than most other backpacks but it was worth it to not have my back killing me during the day.

Look up the ILBE pack. They are what the Marines used over the last couple of years, until the new body armor came out. You can get a nice full set for a really good deal. i have the large internal frame pack, the assault pack, and the water bladder pack. i got it all delivered to my house for 165ish.

I bought a Tenzing TZ4000 recently. I really like this pack. Really good layout and materials. Only problem I could foresee is it has a rather short suspension. I am 1 notch away from maxing it out and am only 5'10". You tall guys may have some trouble with it. But I would highly recommend this pack.

I like the alps pack. The commander and frame. I bought one for an aoudad hunt and really liked it. Pretty sturdy. If you were going to be a guide 24-7 I would spend the extra money but for a once or twice a year hunt it should work fine.

A well placed kill with a small cal. is more gratifing than a masacure with a large one.

I bought the Super Spike Duffle to go with it so my pack (4900ci) + duffle (3500ci) = 8400ci of capacity
That's can get heavy quick

A few weeks ago my family did a back-country hike/camp so I loaded my pack up. My kids and wife had their own packs with change of clothes, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, snacks and water.

In my pack, I was able to fit literally everything else for my entire family in my pack. It was super comfortable and it rode well at just over 54lbs.

I'm probably going to be odd man out in this discussion- but I prefer gear that was designed for back country hikers, not packs marketed to hunters. I'm pretty tough on a pack, spend about 120 days per year outfitting hunters, pack out a lot of heavy loads in rough terrain.
I currently use KELTY equipment. The Redwing 50 is my favorite internal frame pack.

That being said.... KUIU packs were designed for Goat and Sheep hunts, and should fit the bill and reduce weight drastically.
