Shot a cottontail in the head stepped off at 75 yrds with my 22 pistol.....reached out the window, made the shot with 4 witnesses. Walked over and got him, confirmed shot with the other 4 guys in the truck. Had hard time posting back then cause there weren't no Facebook or THF. Didn't have cell phorn either back then, I got broke down that day and walked for 15 or so miles before I got picked up by the Border Patrol. Gave me a ride to a gas station with a pay phone. What's a pay phone anyway Shot was good though, I got cheap shots...

This past weekend I took my AAC 308 for some doe whacking. OBrian and I both dropped our deer in their tracks with the 308 at 364 and 403 yards. Bullet performance was superb with the 150gr Hornady SST pushed to the max. Shot placement is key.

I bleed all my game meat out in a ice chest before processing. Never noticed any difference if they drop or run. x2 I've had experience with dead right there and with game running a few hundred yards. Aging the meat for a little while in the cooler leaves them tasting all the same to me.

So a deer shot at 100 yards tastes better than a deer shot at 300 yards? Is that what I am suppose to believe?

Deer that drop in their tracks at 400, 500, 900 yards, do not fit the example. Only deer that run their guts out for several hundred yards. It just seemed to me when I cut up the quarters, the meat seemed engorged with blood vs one I dropped dead in his tracks. Maybe not.

So it has to do with how far they run and nothing to do with the distance of the shot. Are we clear on that, now?

I can tell you for certain that a mulie that eats sage tastes like a combination of a wool sweater and a penny, no matter what distance they are shot at!

Right, it's about the meat and the drop dead kill. Distance does not mean anything, according to most posts. I really was in the dark on how many guys at 400 to 800 drop deer dead. But, just for fun, we can meet at my ranch and have a friendly wager, 5 shot groups at say, me shooting at 100, you shooting at say 550 or so. Tightest group wins. Say, 100 bucks a round. You in?

I guess it's because I can't shoot as good at 550 as I can at 100, getting "clear" with sneaky, he apparently is.

"As good" is a relative term. Is it half MOA at 100 and 550? Or is it three quarters of an inch?
Because half MOA from 100 to 550 is all killing deer, hog, coyote, ect...

And the off season is getting off to a good start.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

So, what does this have to do with deer tasting better having been shot at shorter ranges? That was your point, wasn't it? I hope this isn't your attempt at crawfishing. Maybe you were just confused as to what point you were trying to make.
