Quit shooting pigs in a trap at sharp angles. They are contained and not going anywhere. If it takes more than one shot with a 45ACP to dispatch a pig in a trap the shooter did not do their job IMO. A Ruger Bearcat with short hollow points works well for dispatching hogs in a trap with one shot per hog.

Now outside a trap is another story all together and that is where the 357mag, 357max or 44mag get the carry time in my holsters. Yes I like wheel guns for hunting.

Jeff it wasn't your post I was referring to, more the ones with
"I needed 2 mags full to kill about 4 pigs."
"I shot a pig in a trap right in the head with a 45 from about 7 feet, and the bullet zipped a 6" cut on his forehead, and never penetrated his skull."

Shoot a hog skull at a bad angle and that would not surprise me, never saw a bullet zip across a skull when shot at close to a 90 degree angle so it can penetrate instead of ricocheting along the skull.

Also agree a 10mm is a heck of a hunting round from a pistol, but not a fan of Glocks for my own reasons.

He was referring to my comment. That was a long time ago when we trapped pigs. My post is, a 45 wouldn't do it, and 10mm will at any angle. You would expect a bullet to go into the skull when shooting from a close range with a 45. It didn't. Now I use a 10mm. Problem solved. And you recommend a Bearcat in 22LR, seriously!? Tell you what, you try shooting the next 3-4 more pigs in a large trap after shooting the first one, and see how accurate of a shot you are with these pigs running around like crazy in a trap with a pistol. It's not as easy as you think, and I like to think I'm a pretty good shot. And yes, it took 2- 7 round mags, including a few extra rounds for good measure on 4 maybe 5 pigs to finish them off. I'll challenge any person, especially you now kmon, on here for shooting skill contest with any pistol or rifle that's center fire in any course of fire, you name it. Talk is cheap, and the internet is full of them.

My vote goes for 10mm. Lots of shots. Quick, powerful and accurate.

I'd go for a Dan Wesson Razorback, or a Glock 29 if compactness is a plus for you.

I once had a 10mm govt model long-slide that I was very fond of. Have also owned the big Smith. My favorite of all time is no longer made, the Colt Double Eagle in 10mm.

Only 10mm that I didn't care for was the big Smith. It worked OK, but something about the action and trigger never felt right to me.

The Colt Double Eagle in 10mm is the best autoloader I've ever owned, it was tough and reliable. Controls were just like I like them. - I'll probably wind up with another one, sooner or later. They pop up from time to time.

Been reading up on the 10mm cartridge and I'm gonna try on a Glock 20SF (small frame)if I can find one localy. I have very small hands, so even the smaller framed Glock might not work for me.
