Slow here in east Coleman. If a deer does come to the feeder it does not stay long. I have not seen any sign of rut because I am not seeing deer. It appears to be getting slower each weekend that I come. Strange season for sure. In years past I have always seen plenty of deer and the rut usually winds down at thanksgiving.

I am south of Coleman a little ways and it has been the same for us. Plenty of vegetation and the rut seemed shorter than normal. Moved out with my sister to our open country and saw plenty of movement. Feeders aren't important to them.

We hunted basically all last week minus thanksgiving day.

Observations: 11/21-11/24
First signs of chasing we had seen all year. Bucks were chasing hard. See previous post in this thread. Bucks would not even look at the feeders as they jogged 2 ft passed it.

Observations: 11/26-11/28
Saw more does in this time frame then we have all year and all in large groups. out of all the groups we saw none were being pushed by bucks. Also first time this year that we had bucks eating at the feeders.

No idea what this means, as I'm no expert...just reporting back.

Also stopped by the Shoppin Baskit to check out the big buck contest. It may just be me, but it seems there are far fewer deer on the board this year than in previous years. Heck, in the youth contest I only saw two submissions.

Very slow season for us. 3 of our hunters did not see one deer on saturday evenging. That is not common for us. Last year we averaged from 8 to 15 deer feeding at the same time (not the largest heard but at least something to watch). I can probably count on 2 hands how many deer I have seen all season so far. Checked my camera and november shots were mostly at night. Very few during the day. I sure wish something would change.

Sounds like you may have a lion in the area. I shot one just north of town back in August. It was walking directly away when I shot. I spun it around but it was able to hit the thicket. Didn't get enough blood to warrant trying to track it in knee deep grass and snakes.

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason! nidea

I have been trying to find a lease in Coleman for the past 5 years. I love that area!
