Here are my initial impressions:

*Incredible sensitivity to light. At 30 yards and under, I could acquire targets no problem, WITHOUT the IR turned on.
*The manual is crap. In fact, it's dead wrong about a lot of things; guess they updated the Photon, but not the manual.
*Thankfully, it's an intuitive product and the buttons aren't complicated.
*When you focus at 100 yards, objects at 30 and under are blurry (manual confirms this is true, but would like to see during the day).
*The daytime lens cap is indeed junk (A Sellmark rep confirmed to me in writing they have a replacement in production).

I made an unboxing and first look video. It's here:

Anybody rent these? I am not sure if the price point would be worth it to...

I want to see one before I buy it...

Got mine yesterday and didnt mount it until today. Very impressed with it so far. Zeroed in 3 shots and let the gun cool for an hour then done a group @ 100 yds about the size of a quarter. Not too bad for a bone stock Remmy 783 in .308 .....

I picked one up last Saturday.

Been looking into the doubler for a little more distance out West. Also an improved IR for the doubler to be effective.

A DVR is also on my short list.

I have the doubler on mine. A definte starting around 100 yards....and I like it at 75 yards. The UNV 20 IR is a given.

I was under the impression that the doubler for the 4.6 hasn't been released yet. Is there any fitment issues with the current one out? Maybe it's a lense/clarity issue?

Cleric, no plans for rentals on the photons.

Justwingem, the doubler works on the 3.5x, 5x, and 4.6x models.

If anyone has received a video cable for the Photon XT thus far, there is an issue and we will be sending out new cables to all customers on the house next week.

Thanks

Lots if PMs... Sorry for the inconvenience.
We generally don't rent anything with a price tag under $1,500.
You can always reach me at Tyler@UltimateNightVision.com

Thanks

JustWingem - Most folks feel the doubler improves the sight image slightly. It does shift the POI a bit, but no biggie with the XT...just remember your settings for with and without.

One of my Hunting buddy replaced his cap with a butler creek Objective lens flip-up. It's the #33 size. Drilled a 1/16" hole in the center. It works like a charm. I ordered one right after he told me what he did.

Good work. It's incredible the Photon can see outta that little hole, ain't it? Sightmark is manufacturing new front covers for the Photon, apparently.

The idea of using a small hole in a flip up lens cover is a carry over from the previous Photon's... up

They are in short supply. I would go to one site and place an order so that you are in line. I have worked with Tyler (Bearclaw on the forum) at www.ultimatenightvision.com quite a bit. Good guy. Great customer service. Sells a lot and is in close proximity to the master distributor. That's just my reference. You can choose whoever you want, but it might be a few months before they have regular stock.

Hope this helps... up

Draymun, are you sure it's a #33 size? My contact at Sightmark told me to use #30 flip open, or alternatively #8 blizzard.

EDIT: wrong numbers

My XT objective measures 52.4 mm. The Butler Creek sizing chart shows a #33 to measure 51.9 and a #34 to measure 53.3. The inside of my cover says, "9 BLIZ 33 34".

I believe I ordered a size 33 so that it would fit tight, the 34 would be loose. This photo is with that flip up cap and a filter I am testing.

Doing the same here for the chincy cap that came with it. Besides it had a tear in it from the factory. It looks to be very easy to lose in the field just by brushing up on something by mistake.
Ive got a total of 50 rounds through it as of today on a .308 w/ 150 gr hornady sst on a h380 load and still holds zero perfectly.

OH YEA, trying out a few different loads to see what the rifle likes. Besides gotta work it before hte warrenty goes out on it...
I just happened to have a "bushwacker" #6 flip up cap and it was a little tight but I got it on there. Put the 1/16" hole in it and everything looks great.

Best fit with a Butler Creek is sz 31. I had a 33 on mine and it was a bit loose. I had to tape under it to hold it on. Bought a 31 and it went on tight, but fits right. Put a 1/16 hole centered in it and you're good to go.
