There's a spot, whenever you're ready.

Let's try this again. Assuming I'm not stuck in the a$$-end of the world again during 2nd rifle season, I'm in. Once again, I have a cook tent, extra cooler and a long bed Ram 3500 with lot's of extra space to contribute to the effort.

That was my attempt at a glass half full comment. Out of character, I know.

BTW, I was reading on the NM DOW web site. Not sure if I understood it correctly, but seems they require a body to buy a Small game license for $65, BEFORE even letting/permitting you to apply for an Elk tag, also it seems they have no "point" accrual system???

Sneaky said there wasn't a point system. I'm sure the 65.00 won't be the last dun they get out of us. 'Whole state has a "help me, I'm poor" attitude.

CR, I wouldn't mind having to buy that tag AFTER I was drawn. like Colorado does with the habitat stamp for a few $$.

NM wants $65 for the SG lic, then $5 or $10 for their Habitat stamp? So they make at least $65 no matter what, sounds like extortion to me.

It's been a few year since I've applied there, so I'll have to look. Used to, it cost 10 or 20 bucks to apply, but they get worse every year about fees, so I'll have to look. I know they want the 800 for the tag, up front, which is refunded if you don't draw. They also don't allow you to put in for quality hunts the year after you draw one.

And yes, no points. Straight lottery.

I don't mind paying the $800 up front, draw tag, or don't and get refund less app fee. That is fair enough. But to charge a $65 "fee" for a license (small game) I wouldn't use is BS IMO, if that is the case. No preference point system, seems to guarantee them $$ without commitment.

They're not the best, but they are far from the worst. A couple states charge you a couple hundred for a license that you can't do anything with.

And the lottery puts everyone on an even playing field, for better or worse. I like it as a different option. I have states I build points in. I have my OTC in CO. And I always have a chance in NM when I put in. 65 bucks is a bit unreasonable, but I can live with it, all things considered. They do some goofy things, but they still have the best elk hunts that I have any chance of drawing.

Sounds like certain members on this thread are suffering from a severe case of Cummins envy laugh. Do not despair not all of us can be blessed by the torque gods!

I've had all the Cummins torque I care to, but I am jealous of that long bed. Sure would have come in handy with all the gear we had!

Like CR I already have other obligations and can't do the Co OTC hunt next year but if the NM draw dates line up just right I will be 100 % all in. Just keep me posted. Thanks.

Nice thing about the OTC tag, schedules change and you can load up, get a tag and go to work.

For the sake of the thread I'll keep my vehicle choices to myself.

Yeah, you'd think a man with a high-falootin' job that sends him all over the world could afford a decent vehicle.

Y'all see many deer on the trip or not at the right elevation for the concentrations...be a good time to consider a deer voucher so someone can start looking.

Seemed like a decent number of mule deer to me. Especially does. Would have been nice to have a tag.

Also wondering how I get a tag for some of those cattle I saw roaming the park. Definitely could have filled the freezer with one of them.

Rifleman, we saw a ton of mule deer does as Shawheel mentioned. The 4 bucks I saw were in no way even remotely close to what you just shot. Maybe 110-120s though I am sure there are some bigger but harder to find. It's not a great to area to glass, I.e. No big huge meadows/openings etc.

I will follow Jerrods lead and for the sake of maintaining the quality of the thread will refrain from responding to any more attacks upon my poor truck. I will, however, point out to CR that after you add the double stacks, the nekkid lady camo full wrap, the under truck neon and the chrome bull sack that a Dodge can become quite pricey!!
