I always wash clothes in scent-free detergent and then store outerwear in a plastic bag with leaves and foliage from the area I hunt in. Obviously staying downwind is the best option.

As I spend 95% of season with a bow in hand hoping to have deer with 50 yards or less of me, I try to get as much advantage as possible. Wind is obviously crucial and can make or break you regardless, but some additional measures I feel have helped further success. I wash my clothes and spray down with dead down wind and then store them in a sealed container. I shower in dead down wind products. I walk to my stand in clean clothes and then change into my washed hunting clothes and scent free rubber boots when I am about. 250 yards away from the stand. I apply conquest scents Evercalm to my boots and back pack before making the final walk into my hunting area. I enter this area down wind from a different trail as often as possible circumventing molesting the upwind woods with any disturbing scent and sound. I have walked up on bedded deer at less than fifteen yards and been able to slowly circle around them and have them never get up and leave on my way to the stand. Once at the blind, I am using a product called Skunk Fusion to curtain my down wind area and buffer my unavoidable traces of human scent. I try and hunt these areas when wind is ideal, but in reality it is near impossible for me to only hunt these stands when wind is perfect and at time I am faced hunting with the absolute worst wind on a given stand. Nonetheless, I have been having excellent results of seeing deer and not spooking deer in exponential numbers compared to fellow hunters on the property who do not take as extensive measures of scent control. This season alone, I am seeing deer at every sit in the stand I make, and have had many of these deer come in virtually unalarmed and downwind. To have 11 deer from 6-22yards away and down wind of my ground level blind and stay for over an hour is reason enough for me to keep doing what I'm doing.

JThoele - your routine is very similar to mine. I venture to guess that many of the scent control naysayers do not bowhunt. I can't imagine trying to bowhunt without taking measures to control my scent. I carryover what I have learned from bowhunting into rifle season and am confident I see more deer than other hunters who do not.

I use whatever scent free soap is on the shelf of Walmart. But I don't use it for the scent free properties, I use it because there are no uv brighteners in it. You can not eliminate human odor completely. Just hunt the wind.

Field and Stream tests of scent control methods:

Keeping in mind that a Whitetail's nose has more scent receptors than any breed of dog, I believe that if the deer is downwind it will always smell you no matter what. In some cases it just does not care that you are there and as a result it doesn't spook.

My thoughts with washing clothes and self in dead down wind products isn't necessarily to take away any human scent, it is to not ADD any. I don't want to smell like fragrant soaps, shampoos, deodorant, and laundry detergent that one would otherwise use on a daily routine. What I do believe helps, is a masking cover scent: skunk musk, coon urine, even deer scents. As I said, I'll put Evercalm on and the. Surround myself with some skunk fusion, and the end result smells like you stumbled upon a Sasquatch orgy...definitely not human, pungent and yet somewhat alluring... banana

The problems with the police dog test is that they used the same dog/hunter for each test. The test would have been more effective if they had used at least a dirrerent hunter for each test, maybe even a different dog for each test. Not saying that it would have made any difference in the results.

BIO EXTREME is the estest scent eliminator spray on the market.....BY FAR. I have used this product for the past 8 years and have yet to be "busted" by any deer - whitetail or mule deer. This past weekend, while sitting in a 10ft. tripod stand, I had 6 bucks feeding not more than 25 yards away, downwind from me, while the wind was blowing 15-20mph. They were never alerted to my presence and stayed for nearly an hour! The only problem....no shooter buck in the group!

The reason you didn't get busted may have more to do with you being 10 feet in the air than you being sprayed down with some special juice.

I use Wildlife Research scent killer for use on my clothes and hunting gear. I also use natural coon urine to spray as a cover scent sick

I've had unbelievable results with nose jammer cover scent
I hunt from a ground blind and had deer come 10 to 20yards downwind and still hit the feeder
