Won't let me edit this post... As HTXH was saying, there is not a brightness AND contrast control, but rather one adjustment that that controls brightness.

Here are some photos comparing weight, rear objective depth change, rear eyepiece changes (diopter adjuster and composition), control wheel change, and lack of ext. power jack on the XT.

You can select a white, green, or red reticle on any of the reticle patterns.

I've got one on order already, and I'm looking for a one piece mount. Any idea what decent one piece mount would fit a 4.6?

Thanks

I've got one coming too. I also have the earlier model. It has a 30 mm tube. I would expect the new one to have the same tube size. About any one piece mount would work, as you don't have to worry about windage and elevation adjustment stations (per the pictures posted). I've got an old one piece mount sitting on the shelf waiting for the new sight. I used two piece mounts on the first model. I had to use a lot of windage adjustment to bring it in, but so far it has held well. I have scored two coyotes with it. I really like the first model, but the magnification is a little shy of what I would like to have. I tried the doubler, but wasn't happy with it. Tyler suggested a couple of things to try with it, but haven't done that yet. Looking forward to the new scope. Right now, the old one is my go to gun when I hear the song dogs talking.

Not every mount will fit the new Photon XT. For example, the Sightmark SJRK will not fit. The tube mounting space is about 4.687" (eleven sixteenths). The Burris PEPR should fit, the LaRue should fit, Primary Arms has one that should work, and the Bobro outta do it also.

Morning He'sDeadJim -

You are correct, the Sightmark CJRK mount is not well suited to the PhotonXT - It was designed well ahead of the Photon's release so consumers should steer clear and try some of the other mounts you mention, here is a link to the CJRK Sightmark CJRK mount

An observation I made from the video that you linked to: The video's description states the Youtoob vid doesn't look as good as what the shooter is seeing in the viewfinder. That is interesting, the video out resolution and the viewfinder are near exact matches in resolution so technically the video should be exactly what the shooter is seeing. I am thinking maybe since the brightness (gain) adjustment doesn't show on the video output that people over at OLG are relating to being able to adjust the brightness only to get a brighter picture overall but I wouldn't say the scope looks "MUCH" better than the video output in the case of the PhotonXT.

Welcome to the forum, are you from Texas or another State?

Hey, anyone got any ideas about mounting this scope to a civilian rifle fitted with a one piece base and 30mm rings? If so, please advise.

Howdy. Yep I'm here in Central Texas. Chasin' down the hogs all over here, from Karnes City to Floresville, and Blanco to Marble Falls. Always looking for new friends to shoot with.

Yes.... It is much improved over the original Photon, both night and day. It does not have an external power port as indicated in a lot of the documentation. Nice choice of reticles and 3 reticles to choose from. Has a selection for crossbow. The onboard IR is reasonably decent, but an add-on like the UNV 20 IR makes a huge difference. Pretty decent bang for the buck.

Well....hopefuly...it isn't like the previous Photon in regards to numbers produced. The first customer shipments arrived a few weeks ago and I don't think the next shipment is due in until around the first of the month. I would pre-order with a dealer, someone like Bearclaw (Tyler) at ultimatenightvision.com.

Note: I do not work for Tyler or Ultimate Night Vision, nor do I get a red cent for suggesting him. I buy a lot of night vision to see how it works for myself. Tyler has been very good for me to work with on obtaining equipment and I think, like most of his customers, he provides excellent customer service.

I know i'm a newbie here but have been lurking in this site grabbing valuable info from all of you posters over the years.I figure it was time i paid back some.

Between my lease-mates and myself we've received 3 of the 4.6 XTs last week with another on order. They were purchased through a seller on Ebay who was putting up 1-2 units for sale every couple of days.

Subjective review against my ATN PS-22-2(HPT) - mounted in front of 4X ACOG while HOLDING JUST THE UPPER of my AR:

1. midnight last Tuesday - full moon, no cloud cover in backyard overlooking neighborhood pond. No other ambient light other than moonlight. Did not use IR light sources.
2. Image amplification seemed on Par with my PS-22's (impressive at this price point!)
3. Resolution was about 1/2 that of my PS-22 but in line with published LP/mm of both devices. Was some graininess but more of a resolution issue of display than signal/noise.
4. Easily made out 2 teens smoking (hopefully cigarettes only...) at the neighborhood playground on the other side pond (~210yds away). With the XT i could see both of them sitting on a bench and then move to the swing set but could not make out much more. With the PS-22 i could see that they were wearing shorts and t-shirts as well as the light that was given off from the end what they were smoking...
5. definitely 'Whack a hog in the head'-able at that range in similar conditions. Very impressive for $499 free shipping!
6. for implied usability for hog hunting in our triple canopy, East-Texas woods where the average range is 50-80yds to our feeders, we gave it a score of (8/10).

Range time:

1. Went to outdoor range last Wednesday with a buddy around 6pm. I mounted mine on a .308 H&R Handi rifle that I use for my "Guest Gun". My Buddy put his on top of his 6.8SPC AR.
2. Even with the evening sun to our left and behind us, using the scope cover (with a ~3mm pinhole in the middle) was a must. Without it the display flickered very badly due to overexposure to the CMOS.
3. The OSD and UI made it relatively easy to zero in as well as change the reticle color and type. Basically one button used for on/off and adjusting IR levels and a push-button scroll wheel for the OSD (which includes the sighting in function).
4. Held zero on both rifles for 50+ rds each (as long as you 'SAVE' after making adjustments). We tried cycling the unit on/off as well as removing/replacing the batteries and there were no loss in zero.
5. Daytime usage was acceptable (B/W image basically through a display) and we were easily able to see and hit the green/white sight-in target that the range uses at their 100yd range.
6. One note, the rubber scope cap fits rather loosely onto the scope and actually fell off my gun due to recoil a few times. I would suggest finding some way to capture it to the scope. We can very easily see ourselves loosing them while hunting. I punched a small hole onto the side of the cap and used SS wire and crimps to attach it to the battery cap. that way when it falls off, it's still captive to the scope.
7. Overall i would give it a score of (8/10) for OSD ease of use and ability to (so-far) hold zero. I'd give it (6/10) for the scope's daylight usability. You can use it fine, but it's not optimal due to the basically VGA resolution at the output as well as the image being B/W. But hey, at least for a dedicated NV scope, you CAN use it in the daytime!

So far no Hogs killed with it yet (our bowhunters have the lease for now until General season), but I suspect I will be seeing even more of these units at our lease later this year. To be honest, it's the best product (AT THIS PRICE POINT) that I've played with today. And far surpasses any Gen 1+ units that I've tried in the past.
Hope this helps...

Draymun
